If the reviews of the 4870 are favorable, my 8800GT is being partially decommissioned into my secondary box.
One review by the Inq. indicated that they couldn't get SLI to work even using a 1KW PSU.
The power requirments are ludacris. I remember specing a 1KW PSU for a buddy of mine saying you would never really need to replace that thing (other than if you where so inclined to buy a more efficent one as the years progress). Yet I was blatently wrong!
It's also quite funny though, Nvidia hammered ATi for R600 in regards to it's poor yields and the power consumption vs performance generated, yet here we are a few years later and the tables turned. I dont even think with the 55nm refresh they have already taped out is going to help matters that much, as 65 > 55nm isnt as big as the jump from say 80 >55nm in regards to the 2900XT > 3870.
And then there is the price, that is beyond insane. SLI prices would be quoted at $1400-2100 for duall and Tri SLI! If I still loved in the UK I would be looking at £1500 (just shy of $3000) for Tri SLI, not to mention some other high end components capable of running the thing :\
Still, am interested to see Maxishines vid on youtube, if he actually does it again.
