Arpaio's last sweep sent 200 deputies, helicopters, and an armored car into a one square-mile Latino-dominated town, pulling over anyone with a cracked tail-light or a broken windshield.

He rejects claims that his department is targeting anyone with brown skin.

"We don't racial profile," he said. "We lock everybody up. I'm an equal opportunity guy."

Elias Bermudez heads Immigrants Without Borders, an immigrants' rights advocacy group. Arpaio's policies are discriminatory and "not conducive to a county that is 30 percent Hispanic," he said.

He targets one town, with that much force when the population of Hispanics is only 30%, and they represent just 16% as illegal immigrants currently in jail.

Of course he is targeting a minority.

Sheriff Joe is a god.

Nah, firemen should do their best to pour water everywhere there isn't a fire, so as not to be hard on the places where there are fires.

A friend of mine had to go and interview him for an underground Dublin magazine called Mongrel; anyone who knows the magazine will know it wouldn't be considered a heavyweight among the press association here in Ireland, although it is a very interesting and often hilarious read. My friend reckons he got set up big time as Joe sprung a press conference on him without warning in relation to the case of an Irish paedophile priest wanted for extradition in Sherrif Joe's jurisdiction. My friend was passed off as 'a representative of the Irish press' and grilled by FOX, CNN et al. on the subject of this case, which he knew nothing about (the story wasn't exactly big news back here in Ireland). My friend said Joe Arpaio was an obnoxious idiot and that there were several serious issues relating to his prison e.g. high suicide rates among people being held temporarily prior to trial i.e. possibly innocent people. Check him out on YouTube, he looks a little perplexed by what's going on...
