Hmm... That is a great looking card. Once I get my Second GTS, and if new drivers for the 280 make it perform better than my setup, I'll be getting one.
Not bad when a GTS takes away half of that.CommieChipmunk wrote:

Over $1000 dollars!
But theres some for less so its not all bad.

I just saw that. I'm fucking pissed, that's nearly a pound to a dollar. Some kind of consumer rights organisation needs to fuck the shit out of whoever it is that marks up these prices so much, it's outrageous.ELITE-UK wrote:

That makes me feel better about them being so extortionate. Weird they're slower, WTF are NVidia thinking? My best guess is that it's a driver issue, which hopefully will be resolved soon. Looks like they really come into their own when you whack up the AA though.haffeysucks wrote:

IT IS a DRIVER ISSUE. These are pre-release drivers, just like with the 9800GX2... Wait a couple weeks, these will have full power.ghettoperson wrote:

Why they wouldn't wait to release them until they have functioning drivers is beyond me.
That's not expensive, that's cheaper than the 8800GTX ($727) and 9800GX2 ($818) costs in Iceland.
Then again, it will likely be priced above $1000 in Iceland.

Dude it's $1100USD...Sydney wrote:

Some of you guys seem to think they should be priced relative to there performance. The reality is that products are priced relative to the competition at the time. The GTX280 (280 GTX sounds a lot better to me) is the quickest single card solution on the market, AND it has the best potential for fastest setup (tri SLI 280s). As such, it carries the highest price premium.

I didn't realise GPU competition in Europe was so much higher that it justified a doubling of the price.
In the example of the UK. You have:ghettoperson wrote:

1. Smaller market so each part is more expensive
2. Shipping
3. + VAT
4. Import duty which is 10%
5. + Mark-up of the individual retailer
And I am sure am missing something else.

In the UK. You'll end up with similar prices if not higher based on the pricing of those other two cards. The US price is perfectly reasonably for the card, but outside the UK it is in no way worth it.Sydney wrote:

Just an estimate, I'll bet you it's going to be more expensive in Iceland than in the UK.ghettoperson wrote:

£400 in UK.
*waits until 8800GTX drops in price*

It wont drop that much ^ if atall. Go look at cards like the 7800GTX there still going for £400.

Pricing is fucked up. It's the best single core single card GPU out there, but it's priced totally wrong. It's amazing that the more powerful, dual card, single slot 9800 GX2 is cheaper. Why would you go for the GTX 280?
It seems like nVidia shot themselves in the foot with the 9800GX2. Although I'm sure once they release a GTX 280 GX2 (lol so many GX's), and drop the prices of the GTX 280/260 they'll make more sense.
Also they need to start using 45nm for this.
