ok, i am upgrading from a socket 939 to an am2. Im just wondering whether my computer will start with these components/specs

Here are my current specs

*Amd Athlon 3800 2.4ghz
*MSI RS480M2 mobo(rs480 chipset) link below

*1GB SDRR
250GB hardrive
2 DVD RW drive with lightscribe
Front audio jack sockets
Front 2 USB ports
Front 9-in-1 memory card reader with separate USB port
300w bestec atx 300-12z

ok here is what i am upgrading my computer to on the weekend

AMD Athlon 4200 X2 (2.2ghz)
ECS GeForce6100SM-M2 motherboard (Geforce6100/ nforce405 chipset) link below

my main concern is the PSU, it works fine with my current computer but will it work with my new specs???
i did ask some tech guy on another forum and he said it should work but im unsure.

So you're not getting a new graphics card, after all?

Without any graphics card, that thing should start. If you get an add-in graphics card, I'd go for a new PSU. A cheap Chieftech 500w should do. Or a Corsair VX450.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

i will buy a graphics card but after the weekend, i will first fit the mobo and parts, then finish off me college work. I will buy/fit a card in the summer holidays as i will have more time, i know that when you add a GPU you need a powerful PSU but first do this quick upgrade and finish my work off. I only have 3/4 weeks of college left so its not too long

Also onboard 6100 is . You can even play beef with that bitch if the CPU is grunty enough, 4200.... Yeah it could but chunkily.

19A on 12v isn't all too much, even for a 300w... I've got an ASUS 300w with 2x18A on 12v.

just double checking, last issue, since my windows XP is a 32-bit, would this mobo install properly

Don't even try, your computer will fall over and catch fire in a comedic fashion.

I said it would play a 3 year old game (albeit a bloated 3 year old game) chunkily. If you had a bigger CPU (something in the 5000s) and 2GB you could probably play BF2 smoothly.
