Albert Arnold Gore, Jr. is an American environmental activist,  author, businessperson, and former politician. Gore is currently the cofounder and chairman of Generation Investment Management ( London-based investment management firm with an investment style that blends traditional equity research with a focus on sustainability factors, including social and environmental responsibility and corporate governance.

In 2007, Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize (together with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) for "efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change." He is also the author of the 2006 text, An Inconvenient Truth on the topic of global warming and starred in the Academy Award-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth, released in conjunction with the book. The film documents the evidence for anthropogenic global warming and warns of dire environmental consequences if people and industries do not make immediate changes to their behavior. It is the fourth-highest-grossing documentary in U.S. history.

A year later Gore was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, which was shared by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The award was given "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change" on October 12, 2007.

I came across this yesterday...

Tennessee Center for Policy Research wrote:

Energy Guzzled by Al Gore’s Home in Past Year Could Power 232 U.S. Homes for a Month
Gore’s personal electricity consumption up 10%, despite “energy-efficient” home renovations
NASHVILLE - In the year since Al Gore took steps to make his home more energy-efficient, the former Vice President’s home energy use surged more than 10%, according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.

“A man’s commitment to his beliefs is best measured by what he does behind the closed doors of his own home,” said Drew Johnson, President of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research. “Al Gore is a hypocrite and a fraud when it comes to his commitment to the environment, judging by his home energy consumption.”

In the past year, Gore’s home burned through 213,210 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, enough to power 232 average American households for a month.

In February 2007, An Inconvenient Truth, a film based on a climate change speech developed by Gore, won an Academy Award for best documentary feature. The next day, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research uncovered that Gore’s Nashville home guzzled 20 times more electricity than the average American household.

After the Tennessee Center for Policy Research exposed Gore’s massive home energy use, the former Vice President scurried to make his home more energy-efficient. Despite adding solar panels, installing a geothermal system, replacing existing light bulbs with more efficient models, and overhauling the home’s windows and ductwork, Gore now consumes more electricity than before the “green” overhaul.

Since taking steps to make his home more environmentally-friendly last June, Gore devours an average of 17,768 kWh per month –1,638 kWh more energy per month than before the renovations – at a cost of $16,533. By comparison, the average American household consumes 11,040 kWh in an entire year, according to the Energy Information Administration.

In the wake of becoming the most well-known global warming alarmist, Gore won an Oscar, a Grammy and the Nobel Peace Prize. In addition, Gore saw his personal wealth increase by an estimated $100 million thanks largely to speaking fees and investments related to global warming hysteria.

“Actions speak louder than words, and Gore’s actions prove that he views climate change not as a serious problem, but as a money-making opportunity,” Johnson said. “Gore is exploiting the public’s concern about the environment to line his pockets and enhance his profile.”

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, a Nashville-based free market think tank and watchdog organization, obtained information about Gore’s home energy use through a public records request to the Nashville Electric Service.
So do you think such an influential man receiving so much praise and respect for combating global warming is really just a crafty, successful author and activist?
OR He is everything that is wrong with the elite powers-that-be, conniving thieves. Preying on the fact that most people don't research who they listen to and follow?

Even if it's true, there is a lot more here to consider than just the numbers. He may use 20X as much energy as the average house, but he doesn't live in the average house. I'm guessing his house is easily 4 or 5 times the size of what most of us call home. He also lives in the south, which has much higher energy usage in the summer (cuz it's freaking hot down here). He also might work at home. Forget that mental picture of Gore sitting on the couch in his underwear, typing away on a laptop. This guy is going to have a staff. Speechwriters, public relations experts, ghostwriters for his book, screenwriters for his next film, booking agents for his appearances, film editing crews, graphic artists and who knows what else.

We have to look at all the factors before making a snap decision on possibly misleading data. He could be a huge energy waster and hypocrite. He also may have a super efficient house for all the activity that goes on there. I can't tell you one way or another. I can say that he's doing a good job spreading the word on energy conservation. If it takes him 20X the average energy consumption to get 10 million to cut theirs down, I'd cut him a break.

Excuse you Sir. I really hate it when people generalize, as you are. I am by no means an "ultra capitalist". Putting me in the same boat as Gore, because Im an American is very ... doltish. I agree with you that hes screwing us, at our expense, for his own personal gains. I behave nothing like the man, other than shutting off lights when not in use and recycling, etc....

I refer to him as the King of all Douches. Did you forget that he also created the internets, too?

Now if you were an ultra capitalist Mr Shadow i seriously doubt you would be on this website arguing with your fellow tards all day.  And anyway i think Chittydog is probably closer to the truth.

There is a financial interest on both sides of the debate. This is the same criticism leveled against the so called Global warming deniers. The Goracles extravagant consumption doesn't bother me as much as the claims about carbon trading companies financially benefiting his firm.

But doesn't his property have its pwn solar-power cells? I thought that he is able to have such high electricity usage because he generates most of it himself.

I think you are confusing asshole with douche. You might want to keep those two things separated. Many people see Gore as an attention whore. At this point there is surely better people versed in the science of global climate. Having an ex-politician as the face for the cause is a determent. Well, at least now it is.

Most home solar systems generate enough power , after saving the electricity in batteries, to sell it back to the grip. There by getting a check form the power utility company, rather then being billed.

Im just very confused that he stands on a platform calling for change in our own energy consumption, even though he upgraded his house with all of the latest technology, yet he dosent follow his own creed.

Do as i say...not as i do

Look at Hollywood celebrities today touting the green lifestyle yet jetset around the world.  These are the ultimate hypocrites!  John Travolta with is 5 learjets parked...in his driveway.  Barbara Streisand and her mansion that consumes an exhorbinant amount of water (Tiger Woods has this problem too).  Many stars refuse to fly commercial and thus increase their carbon footprint.

if they want to really change the public perception, they have to speak more to the common man instead of acting all elitist.  Lead by example.  show that the lifestyle they profess is actually a good alternative by doing.

As an outsider may I ask what the big deal is with Gore? I mean sure he's a capitalist, sure he makes tons of money with this "green" campaign of his, but what's all the fuss about? Because he's a politician? I honestly don't understand.

And what's wrong with his home generating its own electricity? How does he not follow his own creed?
