I'd say Sapphire is the best too.  It's the only brand I've ever used and it's served me well.  It's too bad I can't use it in this new PCI-e computer.

My old one was an AGP X1650Pro with 256MB of VRAM, this one is PCI-e but it's only an X300 with a ridiculously low 64MB of V-RAM.  The only thing allowing me to get away with playing things like Half-Life Deathmatch with steady framerates is the tweaks I checked in ATi Tray Tools.

It would be cool if Ray caught up with the ATi series and added support for newer cards in Tray Tools.  Right now, I don't think it has support for any DX10 ATi cards.

Wait. Why downgrade like that?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I got this comp for free so I'm not gonna complain, it's got a faster Pentium 4 in it that's Hyper-threaded, it has support for a C2D (800MHz FSB) which I plan to order soon, it has support for SATA150, it's got PCI-e so it can actually take something faster than an X1950, it does DDR2, and it does dual channel RAM.

I've never had any of that before.

The only thing is that is has
That shitty graphics card
512MB of dual-channel DDR2, and my old one had 2GB of single channel DDR1

Me? (haffey?)  I haven't been banned ever, except the temp now.

I'm just at Mutant's house, posting, because I can't log in and I was at his house anyway.

But why use that shitty X300, when the old rig is way more balanced? I mean, if it's for gaming, at least.

2GB DDR1, 2.4GHz P4 and X1650 is way better than 1GB DDR2, 3.2GHz P4 and X300...

The only ATi brand I ever owned was Visontek.  I bought a Radeon 9100 and 9600Pro.  The 9600Pro is still functioning after all these years.  I put it into my father's rig, I wouldn't want it to go to waste after all these years.

I haven't had an Visiontek ATi card since the 9600Pro, so I don't know how their stuff fares with other brands now.
