I just wish we had referendums on this sort of thing. We need more referendums in general.Kmarion wrote:
Economic implications would not be enough for overstepping states rights. If they cite national security as the core reason then it falls within the jurisdiction of the United States Constitution. House Democrats Call for Nationalization of Refineries !
foxnews.com — House Democrats responded to President's Bush's call for Congress to lift the moratorium on offshore drilling. Among other things, the Democrats called for the government to own refineries so it could better control the flow of the oil supply!! House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) said the same.
Please tell me why they would want to run a refinery... Dont drill or explore. But we'll run the refineries for you
Both go hand in hand and hey Im not bitching if they want to allow more refineries to be built, but there is no way in hell I would support our government controlling refinery operations.
They have also been sitting on at least 7 Nuclear plant license requests, to my knowledge... Congress that is.

I support socialized medicine.... but not socialized oil... Saudi Aramco shows how bad that idea is.
how many Valdez situations happen compared to daily transports of oil to this country from mid east? thats like saying never fly an airplane because they fall out of the air !Turquoise wrote:
I would agree, Teflon. One last caveat, however, is that we should maintain high environmental standards in this drilling. If any Valdez type disasters occur, the company involved should get the shit sued out of them.
You missed my point. I was saying that companies should always be held accountable for their actions. The reason I bring it up is because they often aren't held as accountable as they should be.Schittloaf wrote:
