alright at the business we have a file server backup tape. And that stuff is REALLY expensive to replace, well it broke.

I was just wondering if any of you guys know a better way to do this, such as BluRay drives or something.
I was thinking about it but I dont really know how it would work.
Keep in mind these disks or medias need to be like 50 gigs

Just get some cheap hard drives. If they're only plugged in every now and then, they're not gonna fail unless they're mistreated.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Well, backup requirements change depending on business and data. What kind of backup strategy do you operate with? Incremental or differential backups? Carbon copies?

If all you're doing is backing up a set of files every day, I'd say the best cheap way to go about it is getting a handful of external drives, such as the WD MyBook, making it easy to store offsite backups, and working out how to use them to achieve an optimal backup solution for your data retention needs.
