Just a reminder that the  new ATI card, the 4850 is now on sale in the UK. Most are around the £130-140 mark.

Ya..they released it here too. But I thought they were going to keep the prices down a bit? Say, like next to the HD3xxx series. The damn thing costs roughly €270. Talking about the 4870 btw.

True, but considering Nvidia want to charge you two/three fold for there offering then I dont think we can get on about ATi much.

Very true indeed. Compared to the prices of the GT260/80 these prices are

True, but we need to see true Benchmarks and see how the fare against each other. I will wait for Tomshardware's verdict.

When they say $200 they don't mean £100 ...

4850 looks to be quite excellent, according to AnandTech. They do, however, mention that for some reasons, in some games Crossfire doesn't help at all - you get the same FPS with one or two. It's interesting.

That's always been a drawback to SLI and Crossfire.  If the game doesn't support multiple cards, or there isn't a profile for that specific game, performance is on par, or in some cases worse (due to overhead), than a single card solution.

They where.  4850 was not supposed to launch right now.  They where sort of bullied into releasing 4850 earlier.  Apparantly large customers put in the call to allow it to be released (they where buying like crazy).  And the fact that people where getting 4850s even before then.

4870 is much more likely to have supply issues.

We'll sheeiit. I'll have to keep a look out on tuesday morning for its release. If I find one priced at $299 it will be mine. Hopefully I can get a peak at performance reviews first though, lol.

Am the same.  If I see one for $299 it's getting bought right away.  If it turns out to be crap I will flog it to some poor unknowing individual for more

I'm waiting for the 4870 too. Will try crossfire it with my 3870 see if it makes any difference to performance. Shame we've got to wait so long for the 4870x2.

Don't know if I should get one of them whilst there still in stock. Not sure if the 4870 is worth the extra money and the wait...

I'd say it's worth it.

Just that little bit longer for better performance.
