heey tech,

I just pulled a 160G HDD out of my dad's PC, it has windows XP home edition on it.
I tried to install the HDD but I didn't succeed, here's the info:

I inserted the HDD on the flat cable which is also connected to my DVD drive, the label on the connector said (HDD cable)
so I booted and it would try to boot my dad's HDD so I booted again and pressed F8 and chose my own HDD.
When PC was ready whit booting I did START > My computer.   I wound out that I could see my own HDD but not my dad's
and my DVD drive was missing. I did a reboot and did DEL so I got into some kind of menu. it said: SATA1 : 320gblablalba
Sata 2:..  sata3:...      and well I could only find my own HDD so I'm like wtf. So I go to a TAB where I can select the boot device
I could select CD drive / 320 GB / 160 GB     my 320 gb boot device was already selected as primary boot device.
I did a reboot and It would still try to boot my dad's 160 GB. I don't really know how to format the old HDD and just get it to work.
I tried to find a way to select the 160 GB as master and the DVD drive as a slave but I couldn't find a way to do that.

PLZ techies help me with getting my HDD to work

You can't put a HDD and a DVD drive on the same IDE cable...

edit - nvm. One learns something new every day

Did you disconnect the DVD drive before sticking your dad's HD in? If not, do so. Also, it's IDE, not SCSI.

Yes, you can.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Yes, you can.
on my dad's PC it was all chained so I figured it would work on my PC to,

But I rebooted the PC with only the HDD attached to the IDE cable, and I can find the HDD
I will now try to boot with the DVD drive on the same cable. after I formatted the drive

You gotta change the jumper on either the drive or the DVD drve to slave.
