Disclaimer: Yes I searched Google and tried troubleshooting WMP and downloading codecs and updating videocard drivers, etc.!

Ok, so my computer is working just fine, but then today I want to watch a video file and open it with Windows Media Player and there's no video! (But there is sound). I've downloaded all codecs I need (already had them downloaded and installed but did it again just in case), and I reinstalled WMP as well. The only thing I've changed lately on my computer was I downloaded new ATi drivers the other day. Also, I'm able to play these files just fine in QuickTime or Nero ShowTime, but in WMP no video shows up, only audio. This is very frustrating and annoying simply because I like WMP for playing regular video files that are on my computer and it doesn't take up much resources.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Is it only a certain file type (wmv, mpeg, etc.) that doesn't work or all file types?

Try rolling-back the ATI driver(s).

if it's only certain file types try the codecs.

If you want the best program for playing movies for free, download VLC player.

Yup, VLC is the best, sometimes I even use it for music. But generally I just use Winamp

Winamp for music, VLC for video. VLC is best for downloaded video, as it'll play 99% of all content there is. Media Player Classic is better for HD, and higher-quality video. WMP is shit.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

K-Lite codec pack, uninstall everything you have now and install k-lite.
