I work for Netto - It's fucking cheap as hell.

Pro-tip - Our veg is the same as M&S, and we stock practially anything you'll find in Tescos/Sainsburys, for waaay less.

robust, gamey flavour. Cross between beef and venison.

No fat at all so u need to cook it in a lot of butter or olive oil and never serve it cooked more than medium.

The problem is that we subsidize normal farming but not organic.  Organic farming will always be more expensive, but the difference between its costs and normal farming would be greatly reduced if we didn't subsidize ANY farming.

Agriculture should be totally free of subsidies.
Then how would American Farmers compete with the rest of the world?

Chicken - $10-12kg
Beef anything from - $8-25kg
Lamb's expensive - $20-30kg

Prices really haven't gone up very much at all. Except Lamb. We might spend $100 or so a week for 3 people.

$400/mo at the grocery, but we eat out a lot. Quickly it's becoming cheaper to just eat out than shop for food.
I hear that, but it depends on how you shop. Grocery stores are designed to get people to pick up random side junk that they don't really need. Then again, the last QFC sandwich I bought was just as expensive as a Blimpie's.

I mostly prefer to buy in bulk from places like Costco, treating myself to Trader Joe's now and then.

I seen this coming so I have been taking steps.

Just planted an acre and a half with various veg at the back of the house.
Been working with my dad cutting down trees on construction sites at weekends and have a mountain of timber building up for my log burner.
In the process of purchasing 3 acres to plant fast growing pines which will be ready in 25 years.
Have done a few planning applications for wind turbines for an Indian turbine company who feed back to the grid. And now looking at leasing them a piece of land to build a turbine that can supply 500 house, including mine and my parents for free.
Chickens and pigs are the next plan. My dad farms Partridge and Pheasants so all the houses and inclosure's are already up.

I plan to be self sufficient in the next 5 years.

Most American farming is corporate and very efficient.  If you're concerned about labor expenses...  well, we have illegals for that.

Subsidies actually cause several foods to rise in prices rather than lower.  What makes a lot more sense than subsidization is to simply block foods from certain countries.  There are a number of 3rd World countries that export food to the U.S. that are health risks to us because of bad sanitation practices.  The FDA is supposed to protect us, but as of late, they've really failed at that.

it's not a huge increase. I go to the base to buy food here on nellis. No tax at least..prices are about the same though as in town..smokes are cheaper though.

Been living on top ramen, beanie weenies..and ham sandwiches. Some fresh fruits in a can, and bananas(gotta have those bananas)

this diet is actually not bad. I try to fit in steaks here and there with canned greens. All the farmer markets are to far away, or way to over priced for the hip crowd. We have one trader joes here, but prices are higher there..it' s the base or smiths for me
