...have several exact copies of the same .rar file?

It may sound like a dumb question, but I honestly can't figure it out.  WHY do i need to download 25+ copies of the same file?

If they are named .001 .002 than they are in pieces and not the exact same copy.

It makes it easier when your downloading if the rar's are in smaller chunks, than one big .rar anyway.

Similar to what Aussie said.  They make copies like that so it is much easier to download.  There aren't necessarily the same copy but more of the next part of the previous file.

maybe you have the "hide file extensions" option checked?  so they look like the same... but in fact are what aussie and killer said.

No, they have the same file name.

I only have to unRAR one of them anyway, make an image, and burn/mount it.

uncheck the "hide file extensions for known file types"  i bet the other ones are .r01, .r02, .r.03 and so on, but since you have used similar files before, windows considers them "known" and is hiding the extension.  they are actually a large file split into several smaller ones... same file name, but different extensions.  so they are not the same file, but just smaller pieces of the whole.

Go to Folder Options and disable hiding "known file extensions".

Yep, that's it, just changed that after I posted. (it was a little different in Vista than XP)    Thanks guys.

You could just get your parents to BUY you a copy, couldn't you?

Now let's just wait for you to bitch about the gameplay of a game you illegally downloaded...

no, he bought the game legally but his little sister scratched the disc. No point buying the whole thing again, when he can download a backup copy.

Should have been proactive and made a backup right away.

Wow, you are so much better than us.  Everyone should be more like you, your Greatness.  I get paid for work and I still download torrents.  Please, take the "You're all a bunch of little kids who aren't as intelligent and experienced as I am" comments elsewhere.  No one cares that you don't download torrents and we certainly don't care to hear your elitist bullshit.  Have you been talking to nukchebi0?

You should like the chorus.

PS - It's Sir Greatness.

I see no point in illegally downloading content when/if you have the money to pay for it.  To steal something you could very well pay for seems rather elitist to me.

how's that?  i'm just asking a simple question, yet you have to input a little rude commentbecause you pay for things.  good for you - so do i.  i've paid for $495 worth of music so far, and that's just in iTunes.  i've also bought countless albums.

i just dont understand paying for a game i'm not going to be playing much.  it's the summer, and yes, i have a lot of free time, so i download games to keep me busy.  R6V2 has pretty much only singleplayer worth to me, so i'm just not going to pay for it.  however, a game like TF2 i'd be playing for a while, so i bought that - full price, mind you.

i've probably spent over $600 on games so far.  that's a lot for a 16 year old.

anyway, once you read this, reply saying you did so.  i don't really want to argue over this, so ill just delete the thread.

sux2bu, I download whatever I want, whenever I want, whether I have the money or not. Why? Because I'd rather spend my money on things I can actually touch.

Also, who mentioned illegal downloads here? "rld-r6v2" could stand for a lot of things.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Cartman - "Whatever, I do what I want!" Just chill guys. I think some of the posts were deleted (if that answers your question Freezer) coz it was bordering on stuff against the rules.

At least I know why my torrents are like that too. Never really stressed over the multiple, identical (seemingly) files, but did always pique my interest.
