Im having an issue recently to do with my wireless connection. I start BF2 with 5 out of 5 bars of signal and a full 54mbps. however as soon as i join a server, often instantly im told ive had an error conencting to the server and am disconencted. However once this happens i also loose all connectivity to my network! The signal strength remains at  5bars out f 5 but the speed has dropped to 18mbps. I cannot do anything until i disable and reenable the wireless card! Please help me sort this issue.

For your information I am using a Netgear (108mbps) DG834GT router with a Belkin 802.11g 54mps wireless USB adapter.

Had the same problem with a different Card, needed to update my firmware/Drivers.

Problem was the card did notice the Loading Time as downtime and lowered Wlan Speed resulting in BF2 losing connection.
So try to get new Drivers and see if the prob still exists.

I updated the firmware on my router which seemed to havea  drematic improvement outside BF2, however on playing BF2 it still seemed to crash soon after conencting to a server :S for updating the drivers on the USB card i had some problems as Belkin didnt want to see the downlaoded driver only the original CD

I have a feeling its an MTU size issue... i seem to be getting the feeling im talking to myself here, but could any one tell me the optimum BF2 MTU size, im on AOL where it doesnt seem to work on any MTU size other than 1400, if anyone could give me a hand it wld b greatly appreciated

Sounds like you may have a problem with the ports on your router. I would double check that all of the required BF2 ports are open for business. While that would not explain your connection bandwith falling, it would explain getting heaved from servers.

I would also try and get your MTU below 1300 if you can.

i have a prob with my wireless network at the moment i can connect to it but i cant get online with it but i dont mind though cause the people who live next door have a wireless network with no password to connect so im happy its stealing but i dont give a fuck it wont be for long

Hi there I would recomend you visiting this site for routers and port forwarding.

Just select your make and model of your router and then select Battlefield 2 from the list of software and then it will guide you through the process of opeining ports for Battlefield 2.
Hopefully that will solve your problems.

ok cheers lightmagic all thats done, however I still believe MTU size is an issue as the internet can still crash even when just uploading or downloading a file, basically whever theres a relatively large amount of issue. AOL as far as I know is limiting me to exactly 1400 but i think this is causing an issue when using the internet for larger data tranfer...

update on that thanks guys the loosing conenction throughout the network ahs stopped, however when playing BF2 my ping jumps eery know and again to like 1000 then literally in a second goes streight back down... does anyone know what causes this? Ive been fiddling with the MTU size the same ting happened on both 1200 and 1300 sizes.

If anyone could help it wld be great ad thanks for your advice so far!

Do you have Wirless Internet Connection?
If you dont... but for anyone who does.
Make Sure your CONNECTED BEFORE you do this.
1) open up the wireless connection screen that allows you to "Refresh network list"

2) on the left hand side there is a selectable option saying "Change The Order of Prefered Networks" (it has a star)

3) it should open up a menu with an check box at the top saying "Use windows to configure my wireless network settings"

4) uncheck the box.

What this does:
Windows has an built in automatic wirless network refresher which at about evrey 20 min intervall disconnects from network then reconnects to it. This FEATURE of windows causes some problems in BF2.
When connecting to the internet MAKE SURE the box is checked. windows will connect, go and uncheck the box AFTER you are ALREADY connected. This stops windows from fiddling with the network settings. You WILL stay connected and evreything will run fine.

P.S. That was my problem and now evreything works
