Easy poll, and as there are tons of new GPU´s, chipsets etc hitting us nowadays, I´ve decided to open up another poll about it (the old one is pretty outdated and from the Nvidia>ATI area)
Poll
Nvidia Geforce or ATI Radeon?!
Nvidia Geforce cause they rock | 48% | 48% - 27
ATI Radeon cause they rock | 51% | 51% - 29
Total: 56 |
Kinda hard to tell right now, but the 4850 looks brilliant is quite a bit cheaper than 8800GTs. So I think I'm going to vote ATi.
* has an X1900XT
* has an X1900XT
cheaper than 8800GTs? Hm, why do u compare it to 8800GTs Kyle? I´d rather compare it to 9800GTX cards, which are 170-240€ in Germany right now.
ATi hands down. Out of the two, they have the best price to performance ratio with their cards. I'm already Rockin' a HD3870X2.
Edit: And, the 4870s are !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They're both mid-range cards and are very popular. I'd compare the 4870 against the 9800s, but the 4850 against the 8800s. Edit: 9800s are about £200 here, so they're quite a bit more expensive as a whole.Slayer wrote:

This poll should read "nVidia cause they suck" or "ATi cause they rock"

Nvidia rocks, ATI socks

Fanboyism is just stupid. Ati wins this round.

lol, I bought two Nvidia 9800GTX 512MB each for 169 € (Sparkle @alternate.de) three weeks ago, and ordered a 9800GX2 for 299€ (XFX) yesterday... ATI my ass
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Bad quote Freezer... this was a discussion/thread about the price... and I bought the GTX cheaper than the offered ATI cards
ah, and because I mostly build systems with Nvidia GPUs makes me a fanboy? Ok I´m fan of bands like Slayer or In Flames, fan of BMWs, fan of a german soccer team, but I dont run around in a Nvidia tshirt and celebrate when those guys release new cards every two month

Scales have been tipped with facts. If I had to buy today I'd go red.
ATi because there offering a part that competes with Nvidias 260 for less, and is faster (overall). In the light of ATi's offering, appart from the most diehard Nvidia fanboy, or someone who as some massive desire to play crysis as well as possible regardless of cost, I cant really see why anyone would buy an Nvida card over the ATi (unless there is some sort of special circumstance, i.e SLI, got it cheaper, step-up programe etc).
If a 4870 is just shy of GTX 280s performance and half the price, I could buy the mother of all waterblocks and the cooling system to go with it and clock my way ahead of the Nvidia card and still have enough cash left over to take my girl out to dinner and get laid.
Come on guys
That said though, if Nvidia drop the price of there cards to make them competative, I may just change my mind, not as the situation stands though. Going to take a little bit of time for the reviews to filter through and for those who wrote off ATi to even consider one. Am glad we have competition again.

Just installed my new 4850 last night. Needed a video card for my second system so the grandson and I can play some R6V2 co-op, and so I decided to snag a 4850 and put my 8800GT in the secondary system.
To be quite honest, I also prefer ATi's drivers. I've had more drivers issues in the 8 months of owning my 8800GT than I did the entire time I owned my X800 Pro, X800XT AIW, and X1950XTX.

Why even mention the first part? If the 4870 is just shy of the GTX 280s performance, then you know it will blow the 260 out of the water.Bell wrote:

Quadfire with 4870X2s > GTX 280 SLI
....hopefully!

Null vote. Too hard to tell this soon.
