Ok...for the last month, my internet's been getting worse and worse. I used to have a 20 ping in BF2 NY servers then about a month ago it went up to 60. Since last night it's surpassed 100.

I just had a chat online with a rep from my ISP and he (at least I think it was a he. I couldn't tell from the name) did shit all. I told him I was having connection issues and his solution was to clear my temporary internet files in IE (I even told him I use FF). Excuse my comments in bold.

Me: I've been playing Battlefield 2 for the last 2 years and in the past 2 months my ping has shot up by about 80-100 miliseconds. Every New York server I connect to I get a 130ms ping when it's supposed to be roughly 20ms

Me: That happened right after Bell claimed to have upgraded my connection to 7mbps from 5mbps

Idiotic rep: I am sorry for that. I have checked your line profile it is perfect from our end. This also may occur due to the play station server.  (BF2 is for PC not PlayStation you idiot. He actually tried to blame it on another company...they've got these people trained well)

You: It's a PC game and the people I've been playing with haven't experienced the same problem so I have a feeling it was Bell when they upgraded my service.

Idiotic rep: I would like to inform you that if the games server is used by many of the peoples at the same time will also cause these types of problem. (Thanks for your help genius)
Does anyone know why this would have happened. I've only come to the conclusion that Bell sucks.

If they've been "upgrading" your connection to a lower capacity, expect that they're having serious distribution capacity shortages in your area, and that they're too retarded to live up to being unable to deliver the service you pay for. Contact them again, insist on talking to an actual technician, and if they feed you the same bullshit again, switch providers. Some ISPs just aren't worth dealing with.

Edit: Most important of all, call them.

How does that TCP/IP optimizer work?

Run speedtest in the afternoon then again at 3 in the morning. If your connection is back to normal at 3 AM, then its traffic and nothing you can really do about it.

That one's actually faster that the one I ran at 3 in the morning surprisingly.

Get Road Runner (if yah live in NY, which it seems somewhat obvious you do, lol) Works well for me:

As far as why, no idea.

try a tracert and a ping test to an IP you know, compare them at different times and report the differences to your ISP...

Pro Tip: Ask for a Supervisor at the beginning of the call or chat.

Dude, get shaw, every other provider is crap.

Bell gives you this shit,
Telus blocks torrents to 5kb/s(even with teh heaviest encryption...somehow) and they block port 80, my site was down for a month(It's finally back up tho cuz I put it on a Free host, but STILL)

Shaw, APPARENTLY shapes traffic, but I've gotten the same speed in my Torrents(Downloading every release of Ubuntu, tards) that I get from downloading the BF2 patch(from EA's uber-high speed server) and they let me run all 6 of my servers(no, srsly, HTTP, MySQL, A custom one I designed, Webcam, TV, FTP.) and no complaints.

Are you DSL?

Perhaps in upgrading you to 7mb, they've changed your line's profile to Interpolation, which adds around 30ms. Can't explain the other 70 though

At least I think that's what America uses, we copy Yurop for most of our standards (PAL > NTSC ).
My state was founded by Batman. Your opinion is invalid.

Possibly colour differentiation for PAL/NTSC?

Spoiler (highlight to read):
Haven't got the faintest.
