A 12-year-old girl in New Jersey was brutally attacked by her uncle's 18-year-old girlfriend Wednesday in a squabble over a MySpace page, the Newark Star-Ledger reported.

" Police said Stephanie Torres was irate after finding the girl erasing a comment from the 18-year-old's MySpace page and stabbed the child three times with an inch-long folding knife hanging from her keychain, the Newark Star-Ledger reported.

The girl had wounds to her neck, arm and rib. She was listed in stable condition.

"I saw everything soaked with blood," the girl's grandmother, Luz Benitez, 61, told the Star-Ledger. "I don't understand how such an ugly thing could have happened."

Torres allegedly scooped up her dog and fled the scene in her car after the attack. She was stopped by police near the hospital, but it wasn't clear if she was planning to go inside, the paper reported.

Torres, who has been charged twice in the past with assault, is charged with aggravated assault and weapons possession charges. She was being held in municipal jail on $75,000 bail, the Star-Ledger reported. "

This isn't the first time we've heard of an incident because of or over Myspace.

the interesting bit here is that the attacker has a history of assault.  i wonder if she was getting treated for this anger management condition?  further, what happens when this 18 year old goes out into the real world and someone shows up with a gun to combat her little nail file.

do parents not instruct their kids in conflict resolution skills these days?

No but these people are just unstable. MySpace makes an easy target because there are so many people using it. People develop obsessive/compulsive behavior over a variety of things. There are underlying issues that need to be explored.

Here we go, blaming MySpace. Its not the internet, its the person. Not just the attacker, it (usually) takes two people to make a fight.

It is the person that gets so addicted to myspace that a stupid comment delete makes her attack a girl.

Internet is not to blame, but it is the motive of the case. I have always thought there are lots of people who should just stay 10 meters away from any computer. Applicable here.

True, but when one of them is 12 I'll let her off the hook.

A year or 20 in the clink would teach her some manners.

Ban her from using Myspace. Sounds like that would be enough to make her commit suicide.

Probably was related to something other than her the little knife used in the incident.

No typo. I guess that since she used the knife in the assault, the law could then consider it a weapon. But my guess is that when they arrested her, there was either something in the car or she had an outstanding weapons possession warrant.

But that's stupid.  If something becomes illegal to possess simply because it's used in a crime there's no point: making objects illegal is something you do to keep them out of the community and keep them safer.

The second theory makes more sense (which is to say, whilst either is possible, the first is stupid lawmaking).

Well there's no shortage of stupid lawmaking here, so both are equally possible. However, I would say the latter is more probable.

It seems to be a trend in economically stable democracies.
