Dow industrials drop 270 to lowest level of year

OPEC President Chakib Khelil was quoted as telling a French television station that oil could rise to between $150 and $170 per barrel this summer before pulling back later in the year. That and a falling dollar helped send light, sweet crude up $3.96 to $138.51 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Rising oil has saddled nearly all parts of the economy with higher costs, weighing on consumers who now have to reach much deeper into their wallets at the gas pump and therefore have less to spend elsewhere.
The latest reading on the gross domestic product Thursday backed up that fear. The Commerce Department said the economy as measured by GDP rose at 1 percent annual rate in the first quarter, a slight improvement from the previous estimate of 0.9 percent, but still quite anemic. Moreover, the number does not reflect the impact of higher gas and oil prices that shot up further during the second quarter, which ends Monday.

"This is unfortunately kind of a slack period. We're waiting for second-quarter earnings. Until then, we have this very negative attitude among investors and everyone seems to be latching onto negative news and shrugging off the positive news," said Jack Ablin, chief investment officer at Harris Private Bank in Chicago, pointing to the uptick in housing sales.
Oil is our nemesis here. Nearly every other indicator has shown some sort of improvement. We should have seen this coming back in 1967. Instead we got leaders content with maintaining the status quo.

Stocks; brokerage houses must put down 50% of the value to buy stock.
Futures: brokerage houses must put down 5% of the value to buy oil futures.

It used to be matched, but futures trading was deregulated in 1999, as far I know, under Bill Clinton.

The company accountant for my supply house has lost half of his twenty year gain in equity in the last two years. Meaning that after twenty years of mortgage payment he now has only 100k in equity.

I am at least temporarily ruined. My wife informed me this morning that since April I have missed five weeks of paying ourselves.
My entire stimulus check and half of my tax return goes today towards the mortgage.
Copper pipes are shot. Creditors call me 20-30 times per day. Entire days go by with no new calls for business.

So, I got three years of drought, mortgage/home value meltdown, and now gas prices are eating up large swaths of ordinary folks formly disposable income. Oh yeah, my business parner and number one sales guy ( and stepfather ) died last year. What the fuck? How did things go so wrong so hard so fast in so many areas?

It seems republicans complain about tax and spend democrats when what the republicans do is burrow and spend.
So if we can't get these blood sucking vampires to stop blowing money like Kentucky trailer trash lottery winners we might as well vote the clown in that is going to raise taxes.

Either way we're fucked for some time and it is hard fucking times for millions of Americans. Like me.

I was preparred for a slow season, we get one every year. I set aside money for it. The trouble is there hasn't been a busy season in two years to prepare for what has become a catacylsm.

I think I'll go reread my suicide thread. That sometimes helps me stop thinking black thoughts.

As a small business owner you only have free time when jobs are flowing and money is rolling in. Then you can take a step back and vacation or explore new income paths.
When things are hard you are busy making sure there is profit on the little jobs coming in, chasing money from deadbeat clients, catching incoming phone calls, emails, bids, paying the fucking tax man and city crooks. One sure way to feel busy is to lay everybody off; then you have to do everything!

But, for the first time in months I have a fair amount of work lined up and have hired two new installers and agreed to partner up with a guy I have known for 20 years who is good at making sales.

I'm considering doing the coverband thing on the harbor cruise tours, I can make up to $200.00 for a three set gig but I don't know if I can face playing Brown Eyed Girl and such. Casinos are also good paying gigs but their Nazi like about drinking on the job. I just can't loosen up and sing without 2-3 beers.

When I'm busy my company easily grosses 2-3k per day with a 30-40% profit. We've had many weeks this year where total gross revenues were below $1,000.00. So...lay offs, part time for the office girl and under the table pay is the name of the game. Up until this month I have been able to keep things static at home. But...ah well. 'Nuff said.

And they're killing the economy.

Futures traders don't ever actually 'own', 'make', or 'consume' anything.

They only have the 'right' to trade 'something' in some fantasy 'future'.

And, by trading that 'right', they push up the value of the 'something'.

Much the same way Enron manipulated Energy markets.  I distinctly remember California taxpayers bailing out the Energy "trading" companies to the tune of several billion dollars.

Yay for government bailouts!  That sure puts a smile on my face and a boner in my pants

But then again, that's somewhat how stock markets work anyway.  A stock price is rarely tied directly to P&L ratios, quarterly revenues, or analyst forecasts.  The fact that supply and demand drastically affects a stocks value is one of the major flaws within our stock system.  That and the fact that a handful of people control a vast majority of all stock...

The market is the new religion
And with micro chips implanted in everyone on the planet, a centralized government will know your every move so we won't need the fear of god anymore. "They" will just come unannounced, pick you up and take you away. And that will keep you doing what "they" want.

Hell, the chips might even some with immobilizers that will shock you every 10 minutes until you turn yourself in and confess.
I bet there will be heavy trading on the futures market for those chips when they begin to be implemented.

U.S. Stocks Tumble, Sending Dow to Worst June Since Depression

As I expected, $160 a barrel this summer. And the "Sell in May, and Go away" has finally arrived. The Stock Market is overpriced, and it wouldn't surprise me if there is a crash in October or around that time.
