Computer turns itself off :(

The last couple of days my home computer turns itself off and there are a faint electrical sound to be heard when it happends

I have used speedfan and the temps looks okay in general around 45 - 50 degrees and core temp around 53 - 58 degrees celsius.

I have checked all outside connections and they are fine.

Last time it happend last night it was after using the scroll on the mouse rapidly but it can also happend when the mouse is not in use.

Am gonna open up the cabinet during the weekend and just wondered if anybody had a clue what to look for besides the obvious of checking all connections ...

... was just browsing some of the times, played Monkey Kick Off on trackr ... played CSS and TF2 for a couple of hours on Wednesday and that went fine ... used the browser after playing and it shut down ...

Are you running Vista? If so, check your "reliability log" ... Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Reliability and Performance Monitor > Click on 'Reliability Monitor' under Monitoring Tools

^ try and find the same thing in XP, I'm sure there is something similar ... it should tell you why your computer is turning off.

Same thing happened to me a month or to ago. Its the PSU. Sometimes it would run sometimes it wouldn't.

That's what I'd cast my vote at, too.

You don't want it to be the PSU, a failing PSU could take anything else in your computer with it. I would replace it ASAP.

Run Memtest, if that checks out, I concur with Maniac, replace your power supply before it fries everything else. lol. Most name ram has lifetime warranties.

Memtest is good ... checked for loose connections and they all seem good ... have ordered a new PSU
