I just don't understand the benefit flashing the bios to the Rampage. Can someone explain this to me; i have a Asus P5e too.

Much MOAR overclocking options (more voltages you can change, etc), and minimal to no Vdrop.

Plus it gives you a nice "ASUS Rampage Formula - Republic of Gamers" splash screen instead of the P5E one, which I only happened to see once.

hmmm im just a nub overclocker... The only thing I've managed is to overclock my Q6600 to 3.4 Ghz by just tweaking the fsb and vcore voltage. I really don't understand the Vdrop means

Vdrop is how much your Vcore fluctuates - if you don't have a quality PSU and mobo it will change a lot, and you won't get a stable high overclock.  With the Rampage BIOS, the P5E thinks it's a Rampage, and acts accordingly.  They're both great motherboards, although almost exactly alike (the Rampage has dual Gigabit LAN ports instead of one on the P5E, and an X48 instead of X38 chipset).

With the P5E thinking it's the Rampage, it acts like the Rampage.  ASUS of course made sure that the Rampage had minimal Vcore drop, and that the P5E had a little more, so that buyers who really want a stable/high overclock would get the Rampage instead of the P5E.

I wish I could fix my GA-P35-DS3 Vdroop...! But none of the mods I've found are working :'(

Also note the difference between vDROP and vDROOP. Vdrop is the drop from BIOS settings to idle voltage, and Vdroop is the drop from idle voltage to load voltage.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
