Now that it hit Nvidia with 'Da Bomb,' you'd think AMD could deserve a little time off but that's not happening this summer as the company is preparing the release of a new dual-GPU card, the Radeon HD 4870 X2. Set to feature two 55nm-built RV770 GPUs summing up to 1600 Stream Processors, the upcoming single-PCB R700 beastie can be seen in the nude just below.
The black-coated circuit board of the HD 4870 X2 houses the RV770 couple, a PLX PCI-Express 2.0 bridge chip (between the GPUs) and, front plus back, 1GB of Qimonda GDDR5 via 16 memory chips. To extra power connectors are also 'included.' The Radeon HD 4870 X2 should be released in August.
