Because of the excessive amounts of https://i1.tinypic.com/6oy3f2s.gif I've been prone to lately, many of you know 1-4.
In case you missed it;
1) Drought
2) Death of pops
3) Mortgage meltdown
4) Ass rape at the pump.

5)
The price of copper is nearing $4 a pound and has more than quadrupled in the past five years.

Yup. No kidding. And as the economy has gone to shit hungry contractors are charging less than they did ten years ago. It's made it damn hard to sell work at the same price I have had for four years.
I work harder than I ever have. But at the end of the day, there is less and less left over.

Yesterday a job I did a few years ago canceled $3500 in additional work because the copper downspouts on the garage had been stolen.
Today, a $22,500.00 job in Big Bear is indefinatley postponing the completion ( $ 7500 remains to draw upon completion ) because...the copper pipes and bronze brackets have been ripped from the home.

Here's a preview of strike 6.

War with Iran’s a done deal, folks…
It’s just a matter of time.
If Obama “wins,” they’ll start it just to phuque him up.
If it’s Bombin’ Johnnie, he’ll welcome the distraction.

The fix is in. The game is crooked. The deck is marked, shaved, and stacked. The dice are loaded. The wheels are rigged. The dealers cheat, and the chefs spit in the fondue…

Yup. Goooooood times.https://i16.tinypic.com/4hwi9n4.gif

Did they cancel because they think you're somehow at fault, or because they're afraid of losing more hardware?

Hey ATG surely its not all bad. You still have your wife and cool kids right? I remember one of your posts you had a photo of them and said " I'm doing it for them " or something. You  would be a cool Dad for sure ( my wife and I are thinking of trying for kids now, so i am thinking about what it means). Chances are that if you can weather the current economic storm your business will go extremely well. I cant add anything else except to say hang in there. I wish the best for you.

Just out of interest why does anyone use copper for this?
Surely aluminium, steel or plastic would make more sense.
Steel is cheap, and rusts merrily -> Regular replacement work.

Also can you diversify at all? When the economy is in the crapper govt contracts are the way to go.

The latter.

Thanks mate.  We all agree. If we can survive, it will be a boom eventually.

People use copper because of it's natural beauty. It lasts the longest of all the exterior metals. We historically have installed miles more aluminum than copper in terms of volume. But...aluminum is for average people. Average people aren't spending money. The high end market is somewhat static as rich people stay rich when things go bad for us little people. Copper is 90% of what is selling right now.

I got into national sales of materials, and it was building steam. copperworks.net is my other site wherein I am pimping swank made, lol, in Mexico.

I take it as the customers are better able to get away paying unlivable wages.

Do people use fake finishes - eg copper over steel, or totally fake tarnished copper look on aluminium?
Just interested, I've done roofing, replacement of cast iron downpipes etc.
Seems nuts to be using pure copper given the price.
A lot of domestic wiring is aluminium instead of copper in the US as I understand it.

There are alternatives.

Copper last the longest. But, I have a spray on copper coating that I'm gonna try marketing. It will patina naturally.
