Not anymore. I run at 3.73 right now, for temp- and voltage reasons. Somehow, my chip looses performance at over 1.5v. I do, however, get 1300 points flat on 3.4. Around 1400 for 3.73.

I'm not saying my CPU is omgpwn, I'm saying that his CPU is omgsux. Even with that low multi, he should hit at least 3GHz without hassle.
And the clock speed of an E6400 is?

Answer: 2.13 GHz

@those who poured scorn on my claims that clock speed is more important than cpu generation: So, clock speed ain't a good measure of how fast a PC is and all Core2's are faster than older cpus?
Yes, I know that, thank you. What I'm saying is, that 1800 points is a horrible score, since his system is capable of so much more.

Also, wasn't it you who had issues with the clock speed/architecture thing?
Well, it was me that was saying I could tell a slower clock speed from a better one irrespective of cpu generation - and I didn't think you were one of the naysayers.

And, yeah, I think you're right - his system probably should be doing better - but I can't be arsed to check up on what he should be getting, but equally that slow cpu clock speed is going to be something of a bottleneck - the system won't be able to feed the GPU fast enough.

A 600w toughpower is enough power for a q6600 @ 3.8ghz and 280GT sli, overclock that fucker!

It might be able to power one 280.

Well, I've tried two more games: STALKER and CoD4.

STALKER: Using the 1.0004 patch, I maxed out all settings (including lighting, shadows and FSAA), set the res to 1440x900 and did the first part of the game where you rescue Nimble form the bandits. I got similar scores to Crysis - 40-50 FPS at most parts, dropping to 30 for the more graphically intensive parts. The X1900 did 30 FPS at mostly high settings (but no FSAA) at the same res.
I love STALKER, and I can't wait to play through it again with awsm graphics and a smooth frame count.

CoD4: I used patch 1.6 and played a few games of multiplayer over a LAN. I'm not entirely sure what maps we played - I can only remember shipment, crash and killhouse - but this card excelled. The X1900 ran it fine at high settings, but the 4870 did every setting at it's highest and there was no stuttering at all - it seemed that every time I looked at the frame counter, it was sitting at 90.

Just pre-ordered a 4870. What sort temps are you getting at idea and load?
I'm getting something to monitor temps just now, I'll post up the results in a while.

Seriously, with a 9700 you can easily hit 3.5GHz, OC that bastard!

Overclocking my E6600 took my 3dmark06 score from 10k to 13k
