I cannot decide whether to buy a PS3 or to build a pc

if PS3, which one is the best? (ability to play older games etc)

pc... well. i will probly use the pc more but ?????.. i dont want to spend HEAPS... and i want it to be good for a while

current pc specs

Laptop - HP Compaq NC 8430
core2duo T2400 @ ~1.86GHz
Ati Mobility Radeon X1600
1.5 gig ram

i only have about 500 bucks at the moment but i save pretty quickly

if i go the pc, im gonna have to go all out case/g15/g7, everything but screen

probly max budget for pc would be $1500 Australian Dollars

Oh, you have a laptop atm. Tbh I have a PS3, and I use the PC more... I would go for the PC because you don't have a desktop atm.

I have a Xbox360 and PS3 and use the PC way more. A medium rig should fit with your budget....

I'd go with laptop. I'm not very satisfied with my PS3 and would instantly replace it with a lappy but I already have one.

Build a desktop. Thats what Im doing, and Im doing it with ~250-300. I dont have to buy a case/OS/monitor, but still it should be good enough to play pretty much anything (not on high for things like Crysis, but for the price I cant complain). Just do lots of research before you buy, and spend time looking for good deals.

Plus, you cant upgrade PS3s. With a PC you can replace something here and there to get more speed; you never really have to replace the entire thing.

PS: Mouse > joystick

EDIT: OH, for $1500 you can build a kick ass system!
