CS:S, DoD:S, + HL:DM or TF2

If you had the choice between Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, and Half Life: Deathmatch or Team Fortress 2, what would you pick? Keep in mind that CS:S, DoD:S, and HL:DM are bundled together, but TF2 is all by its onesie. I've heard a lot of good things about TF2, but can it possibly be better than DoD:S + CS:S?

Currently the only games I play are Battlefield 2, Nexuiz, and Savage.

There are pros and cons to both. Overall, Valve rocks. You won't go wrong with either purchase since I believe all these games are well worth the money.

CS:S / DoD:S ... playing on-line, you may feel like you are completely inept for hours. These games have been out a while and hard-core gamers seem to dominate them. To become good, it will take lots of practice ... but, personally, I love DoD:S once I learned how to shoot the guns, and I have found game-play to be varied and not so linear/predictable (much like BF2). I haven't really liked playing HL2:DM.

TF2 ... this is a lot of fun, and since it is a relatively new game you will encounter a larger variety of skills (many noobs to go with the veterans). I personally found the strategy with this game to get old after a while (it feels too linear and predictable), but that's only after enjoying dozens of hours ... I haven't played since the new achievements came out.

CS:S isn't fun to me anymore. As OH said, it seems to be run by the basement people, so it's hard for newer people to get kills.

DoD:S has the best sniper evar.
..Mainly 'cause it's the only game where I can successfully use dragshots and outsnipe 95% of snipers.
At least when I played it a lot. I still play it sometimes, but not as much.

I'd go with TF2. It takes some getting used to, because there is no class with a rifle or anything. Each class is unique, and so you have to play with each a while before deciding which ones you really like. Also, it relies on team work a lot, which can get annoying if your team consists of retards, but if the team works together, it shows.

CSS is the most repetitive game on the internets, or it would be if not for all the mods.

DoDS is slightly better but the recoil takes a bit to get used to, however most players aren't that used to it either so if you roll with the MP40 at first you'll do okay.

TF2 is just better than everything else out there though.

I forgot to mention this ... the teamwork aspect is absolutely phenomenal and well-integrated into the game's design.

That's a thoughie. Never had DoD:S, and didn't like HL2:DM. CS:S is good, but it takes a lot of practice just to get one or two kills a round. Gungame is fun, and so is ZM. and surfing is an added perk. TF2 is great with all the classes, but the outcome of certain maps is just to predictable. There is surfing, but nothing else. You could mix it up with skins, but personally I prefer CS:S. Sure, it takes lots of practice, but it's really fun once you get good.

That. If you're into traditional FPS games, then the CS:S package is probably the best bet.

However I love TF2 a lot more . (a LOT more)

If you wait a bit a DOD:S free weekend starts this weekend so you can play it and get a nice trial play.

The reason for this really boils down to TF2 being so different, yet so addictively fun. It really brings a criminally-overlooked game - TFC - into a modern market and does it marvellously well. CS: Source and DoD: Source are great games in their own rights, but at the end of the day they are your typical generic first-person shooters (I mean this in a 'vague' sense)- only on the Source engine instead. TF2 really is different from the typical 'Kill:Death Ratio = Life!' and 'Realistic Graphics = Kewl!' mindset that other FPS games seem to strive for.
