SourceHave to get rid of Vista somehow
Hardware maker Dell has decided that the only way to shift Vista boxes is to offer Windows XP as 'an extra'.
For an extra $99, Dell will offer a fully functioning, preinstalled copy of Windows XP Professional. It is being called the Windows Vista Bonus program, which is fairly ironic. But Dell is convinced that it gives customers the option of running XP now and transitioning to Vista when they're ready.
It is designed to fix a problem for Dell which is finding it hard to ship Vista boxes to corporate clients who still want to run XP. Many have said that they would rather wait until Windows 7, but that could also mean they do not upgrade their hardware.

"Microsoft sells XP to the masses"
This has already been discussed - computer companies like DELL and HP will continue to sell XP on their machine as an "upgrade" on Operating Systems that were previously offering Windows Vista Business. So even though Microsoft officially are stopping, other companies will continue to sell it.

Yea, I mentioned this in the topic I made a few months ago about me building a PC. Obviously, Microsoft wants Dell to only sell Vista so the "upgrading" to XP makes sense....at least for Microsoft anyway. You don't want people hanging on to an older product when you are trying to push something new to the masses.
This is different from other topics.
Before it was mentioned you will be able to "upgrade" from Vista to XP (only XP installed) but here you will be able to get XP as an extra with Vista (for 99$) so you will have dual boot (both XP and Vista installed).
And thanks Slayer for reopening!
