x8 CF.
I thought that is what it would be.

1.  If he is using an Nvidia card that doesnt really matter.

2.  x8 x8 in CF on a P45 doesnt hit the same bottleneck that P35 chipsets do.  X8 PCI 2.0 wont limit the current crop of graphics cards in terms of bandwith like x8 on PCI 1.1.  As cards get quicker the extra bandwith availble on X38/48 will pay dividence but by then you would of probably moved onto a new mobo (what with Nehalm on the way and its new socket).

With that said though, I did see a crossfire benchmark with the ATi 4850 on a P45 which didnt look great.

Certainly anyone who buys an X38/48 board at the moment with the mind of running an Nvidia card is being a bit silly with there money imo.  I see no need for it.

I have 8800GT on X38 but will soon to upgrade to 2x4870 or an X2. I don't believe X2 will have two times 1 gig of RAM therefore I'll have to wait for 48701GBs. Upgradeable...
There saying btw the 4870X2 scales 15% better (atleast in the test I saw) than two single 4870s in CF.  Could work out cheaper aswell

But I don't believe there will be an X2 with 2GB of RAM. And I desperately need one gig GPU. I think 2x 4870s being slower than X2 is just driver not completely perfected yet. I still believe in 2x4870 in CF.

I'd avoid P45. What OC do you want to reach with that E8500? Get something better than Freezer 7 Pro. It was good but not good enough for a C2D. Stick with 8800GT if its 512MB.
Can I just ask, would a Freezer 7 Pro be okay for an E8400 if your not overclocking?

Freezer 7 Pro should be fine on a 45nm overclock.  I'm overclock a 65nm AMD and it works great.  Hovers around 40C full load.

C2D's tend to have lower TDP than older CPUs. And F7P can handle up to 130W, so... It is good enough if one isn't OC'ing hardcore.

Yeah but in the days where OCing is easier than ironing a shirt-who wouldn't OC?

True

Yet talking about C2D's, I think the twistedness of many Intel heat spreaders is more of a problem than F7P's power. I for example get only 1/2 - 3/4 contact between the HS and the copper plate of my F7P.

Should lap the HS asap...

I mean the E2180 HS that is twisted, not the cooler copper plate.

The HS is almost 3mm thick.

I know. With what would you lap it? You need pro tools.

800- quality water-sandpaper. Not that hard, and I have seen how much it can reduce the heat
