A website can have value well beyond that listed on a " what's it worth " type website. Of course, somebody has to want it. With no marketing other than search engines that website has generated almost one million in gross sales of materials in three years.

You have to be careful about the contract you sign. He could let you go less than a year later. Remember that you could put anything in a contract. $75k per year with a fixed buy out your management services contract if he decides to let you go. OR a guaranteed fixed minimum in wages that are to be paid, say minimum 2 years pay at $75K. Just negotiate and ask, you won't get it if you don't ask. Also remember that you have the knowledge about how to start one of these businesses up and that is worth a lot so watch out for clauses that seek to restrict your ability to open a similar business if he lets you go. That is another thing you could horse trade, a restriction on opening another similar business for two years with a minimum 2 year guaranteed contract or whatever you can get.Dilbert_X wrote:

Anyway, you should have a lawyer look it over, don't sign anything without fully understanding it. And MOST IMPORTANT don't give any personal guarantees for the lease or other contracts, otherwise he could take the machinery and the contact list south and leave you owing on the guarantees. make sure you are out free and clear (especially any leases) before he takes it over. Geting out of a lease might be the trickiest part as landlords love to have multiple parties on the hook should something go wrong.

Take the deal, pay off your debts, sleep like a baby knowing you won't loose your house and breath a little easier for a year or two with a good paycheck to pay your bills. With time, save and invest and in a couple of years, if you feel like it, open your own shop once again. US economy will be back in full power eventually...
