Interrogation techniques don't have a nationality or an ideology. They are based on human response. Period.

The study looked at the techniques that were effective to ensure that any techniques (which if you actually read the techniques authorized are far from "torture") used were effective in getting valid info, not false confessions. You have to look at what didn't work as well as what did work to come up with an effective program.

But don't bother reading the actual documents signed by the people in question (.pdf file provided). It's far easier to just make hyperbolic claims than to be objective.
So it's not so much that the powers that be decided to take the moral high ground but rather only ditched the torture methods that didn't return reliable info?
If you eliminate the word "torture" from your comment, then yes.

We are into alliteration this month: Counter-Comfort Compliance Cooercement (CCCC or C4).  We thought of Counter-Comfort Compliance Procedures, but at the last moment realized that CCCP may be taken in a different context.

Read the authorized techniques and then try to tell me they are actually torture.

That's what I was getting at.

We don't need to, we have the Geneva convention.

"No physical or mental torture, nor any other form of coercion, may be inflicted on prisoners of war to secure from them information of any kind whatever. Prisoners of war who refuse to answer may not be threatened, insulted or exposed to unpleasant or disadvantageous treatment of any kind."

Again...read the authorized techniques.

But you won't...because you refuse to read or accept anything that is contradictory to your preconceived belief. Have fun with that.

Which part of 'No physical or mental torture, nor any other form of coercion' don't you understand?

Which part of "they aren't prisoners of war" don't you understand?

Additionally, if you would bother to read the list of authorized techniques, you would be hard-pressed to define any of them as "physical or mental torture" or "any other form of coercion".

However, I suppose you would rather guys like KSM had a government-provided apartment full of rose petals and Pelligrino as reward for what they've done. I disagree.
