$1000 cards are nothing new outside of the US.The#1Spot wrote:

The ATI Radeon HD4870 X2 codenamed R700 is slated for a week 4, July release. This dual-GPU card which features two of the RV770 graphics processors which have been an overnight success for AMD/ATI in their single-GPU avatars, the HD4850 and HD4870, will be priced at US $499. AMD claims that this card will overwhelm the GeForce GTX 280. AMD will be in a position to supply samples for internal testing and quality evaluation by 15th of July and July 24th is slated for completion of testing following which, the product could start shipping. Partners will receive chip samples for non-reference designs. Volume shipments of the chips could commence sometime in August.
Im glad theyre finally making something better than nVidia

priced at US $499 = win
do I see a PCI-E 2.0 bridge chip between the GPUs.... and black pcb... teh secks tbh. I was thinking about getting SLi but that would need a decent SLi board for Nehalem. I can't wait to see the HD5 series.

I just heard the X2 will be 512 bits wide, 2GB(256Bit、1GBx2)?? If thats true I'm getting the X2 for sure. Its a perfect beast for high resolutions. Btw it should be available at the end of July.
Edit: Is it shared memory right enough? I generally wouldnt touch a dual GPU card because of the issues that go along with it.

And well problems in general, the one most prominent to my mind is this problem of microstuttering, which benchmarks seldom show. Take that 9800GX2, it matches if not beats the 280 in a lot of areas, but most of the benchmarks dont alot for this stuttering, which is essentially like lag spikes for lack of a better term. Some people will say they dont mind that and tbh its not THAT much of an issue. But, if your spending lots of money on these cards specifically for there performance and to limit the amount of slow down you get. Multi core GPU's at the moment cant get away from this as yet so it begs the question, why pay over the odds for it when it still has the problem (too an extent).
Still, 4870X2 could be different, if it is I will almost certainly get it.

Looks same as the older X2 just sexier color scheme.
Thank GOD.
That'll look good in a Cosmos S...now only to find a good looking Crossfire board...
Nahh the old one looks better..Sup wrote:

Not something I've read about.
Could you provide a good linky for the curious?
I just quickly googled, this article seems to explain it fairly well:Scorpion0x17 wrote:

I had to adblock that shit
That card looks nice though, prepare for it to be ruined when vendors start putting stickers of semi-naked elf-women on them.

Supposedly 4870 does not suffer from microstuttering as much as the 3870x2 did/does.Bell wrote:

Well it wouldnt cause the 4870 is a single GPU card. I assume you meant to say X2? It's only really an issue of multi card setups and/or a dual GPU video card. Which is why if the 4870X2 doesnt address it well enough, I may still be tempted over to the green side. I dont see the point in forking out all that cash to try and get away from lag for you to be simply inviting it in with buying the damn thing.DeathUnlimited wrote:
