Nvidia said something like $199 for the normal 9800GTX and $229 for the 9800GTX+. If the + beats the 4850, you would expect ATi to either start really pushing for overclocked versions of the 4850 and/or cut the price of stock 4850s.

I meant for the 4850.

Well you tell me If Nvidia drop tp $229 and $199 then the 4850 to remain competative in a part of the market where every $/£ count's then they would have to bring it down accordingly. I'd say a cut would be proportional to how much better the GTX+ is over it. As in, if th GTX+ is 10% quicker than a 4850, I'd say a 4850 would drop by 10%.

Least I would do that (and push for factory OC cards, ATi havent really went down that route as much as Nvidia).

Edit: Or the partners havent I should say. You see SSC and XXX edition from Nvidia partners, but not so much from the red camp.

In the summary page for the 4870 it says one of the Low points is "High heat dissipation because of the non-optimal cooling system setup", I guess it means Low heat dissipation?

Does anyone know what temps the card is at idle and load?

If you look at the price of the gtx260 on newegg it ranges between 300$ to 430$ and the gtx280 is 450$ to 670$. Quite desperate. I hope the mass profits from the ati cards will accelerate the amd cpu development.

If you think that'll inspire Intel to drop the $1000+ CPU prices, they'll just shrug it off.

At the same time, it doesn't hurt for them to have some incentive to keep kicking along with their own CPU's other than the threat of the lackluster Phenoms. What kind of a Sega Genesis campaign is AMD running anyway?

Not really interested in the Intel line up. Just waiting for the tri cores to go down in price or more dual cores to be available.
