So I had to move my gaming rig to a new room in my house that doesn't have an internet port.  If I have to, I'll have one installed, but it would obviously be a lot easier to just throw a wireless card into my desktop.  Are there any that can match the performance of a cable connection, or will all wireless cards add noticeable ping and lag increases?

Cheers.

Wireless connections can be fruity, depending on the connection quality in your area. You're better off just stringing a wire across the ceiling, if you have to. I have one dangling through a hole in the ceiling about two inches from the top corner of the wall that goes from my hub to another workstation.

At the same time, I've played games like Dawn of War on wireless without significant noticeable lag. Your choice.

Does anyone even have that here?

To my knowledge they don't even have a wireless version of it.

Draft N wireless is tolerable I suppose, but nothing compares to wired imo

Most NETGEAR cards are alright ... used quite a few them Wireless range sucked in my room through so I have a wire through it now (through the ceiling in the corner, not very noticable - but wireless is still preferable for obvious reasons! Less wires = better)

No, that's why I didn't say "Wireless NIC". Somebody is just bound to say it.

I guess anything you spend about £40 > is going to be good enough, sticking to el known companies.

My mother has a cheap, shitty one and it really sucks. Just don't be stingy on the price, and you'll get a decent one.

my friend has it with their xtreme n router and gets no lag ever, especially when his router is downstairs.

How big is your house and how far away from the router are you?

I thought wired connections would obviously be better than wireless. But last night my friend brought his laptop over and we did some speed tests and he was getting the exact same speed as my wired connection. (But then again, is ping possibly an issue with wireless?) Sorry I don't know much about networking, but I figured I'd hope to get some answers from this thread, too, as I am also looking for a good wireless card

I would recommend a Netgear one.
