Folder Problem

A few days ago I merged my two partitions (one 200GB, the other 300GB into one on a 500GB hard drive, I used Partition Magic to do it, and it asked me to name a folder to put all of the files in partition B into partition A.

I made a folder called "new" on the root of partiton A, and merged the partitions.

When it was done I tried to open it and got this:

But when I tried to use a shortcut to one of the files that had been moved there, it opened fine:

and all the folders and files inside were ok.

But I only had a shortcut to that one folder, and I can't remember the names of the other folders so I can't make more shortcuts.

I tried a disk check, and it did find a few errors, but it repaired them.

What can I do?

right-click on the "new" folder, click properties, click security, and make sure your user name is listed and has full control.

if not, click "add", type your logon name in the box, click ok, and check the box that says "full control."

If that doesn't work try

Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner > Add your name to the list. I think the "replace owner..." checkbox should be checked also.

I forgot to mention, when I click properties it tells me the folder is empty.

Disable Simple File Sharing and give yourself full access to the directory under the security tab. It'll let you list the directory.

^yes do that. if you can't find it, just open any folder window, click tools>options, the view tab, and scroll down the list until you see "use simple file sharing" uncheck the box and then you can set all the fun security settings.

Hop into advanced settings, make sure there are no obscure residual specific permissions that aren't caught by full control for whatever reason.

also make sure no other groups have a deny permission set. your account is (probably) a member of the administrators group and the everyone group. make sure neither of those entries have a deny checked.

OK, I've just formatted and got the same problem again,, but this time I accidentally installed XP Home instead of Professional, so I can't turn Simple File sharing off...

Is there a way around this or should I just re-format using Professional (I wanted professional anyway).
