If hes got the money to spend, it looks good. I'd only change the ram to 1600, if he wants to over clock that QX9650. I'd recommend OCZ Reaper anyways. Everything else looks good. (Nvidia FTMFW)
No he won't be overclocking, and I was gonna go with a QX9770 and 1600 ram, but over-clockers don't have 1600 DDR3 in 2GB modules (unless I go Corsair, and I don't like Corsair (not that I have any experience of OCZ)).
Then don't get a fucking QX!!! That would be nothing but money wastage.
yeah, I know the QX is overkill if your not gonna OC... I haven't got as far as considering price/performance break down...

I wanna start with everything in the right ball-park, no absolute no-no's, and then I'll wittle and tweak from there...

A Creative will work in all games, but a Xonar will work twice as good, and will use all the features he pays for, unlike the Creatives.
All my Creative sound cards were used to full potential.

Well, unless you want to break 3GHz without OC'ing, that is...

Is 10% worth £300? It's not like he's gonna notice any difference, anyhow.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Again, I will be doing a more thorough analysis of price/performance, when I can get his input again - but I've a feeling (knowing him) he'll say "I want that 3GHz!"

Then tell him to raise FSB by 20MHz
