I hear the temple of Artemis is nearish, so i think i'd wanna visit that.

I was wiki'ing it all, Turkey looks like a pretty decent place tbh, nice culture and so on.

I've been to Turkey. Yeah, the New Zealander gets to the northen hemisphere every now and then.
I've only really been to Istanbul and Canakkale and I arrived in Istanbul at the same time George W. Bush did so the place was a security locked-down ghost town. Canakkale was nice, everything's cheap as chips, just watch out for bastards who like to steal shit. I lost 10,000,000 Lira thanks to a pickpocket and had my sunglasses nicked off my head at Troy.
There are some pretty damn awesome Turkish chicks around too, on my second night in Canakkale school had finished and the graduates had a party at the Hotel I was at. That was awesome!

As to the Muslim thing, Turks are the happy, not so fucking serious type of Muslims. They'll have a drink with you and the place doesn't come to a standsdtill at every call to prayer.
I'm not too sure about Altınkum aside from the fact that it is a tourist/resort type of place - I think there's a Temple of Apollo near there. Definately check out the historical sites.

Not a chance of that anymore Parksy, Turkey's changed it's currency since I've been there. In 2004 though 1,000,000 Lira was worth about one New Zealand dollar.

I've been to Marmaris. It was a nice hot place. Don't remember much since it was back in -90 or was it -91. Like Ty said, be aware of your things. I got my two AC/DC c-cassettes lifted which I just bought How low is that, stealing from kids... There was a USS something behind an island and there were a handful of marines walking here and there. They had the vessel open for tourists too but my cheap ass parents didn't want to go there on a daytrip. Damn, I went apeshit about that. I wanted to see that huge boat with them F-117's and whatnot, so bad after I heard it was there. I think they were preparing for Gulf no.1 somewhere in the area.
