"Our dependence on imported oil is killing our economy. It is the single biggest problem facing America today," he said.
Finally.
Somebody with brains, money and a plan.

We convert our vehicles en masse to natural gas, which we have lots of. Wind farms are where it starts.

Saw this on the news earlier. Sounds good, but as they said, it's much easier said than done.

What? No..no. no. We've got the oil -trillions of barrels of it..  We need to drill and build refineries now.  The ME knows this too and they are milking it.  Shell is doing amazing things in oil extraction techniques.  Hell, there is a bill in committee that would get the work started, guess who's holding it up.  The single digiters.  We fix our problem and then kick it into high gear on the alternate fuel.  The enviros got the dems by the short hairs...

whats keeping the oil companies from extracting from the oil rich areas they already have possesion of.  there arent any legal hurdles for them to do it now.

ok.

Let's just continue going fucking broke.

Transmission lines would be built to transport the power to places in the U.S. where the demand is. The natural gas, now used to fuel power plants, would instead be used as a transportation fuel, which burns cleaner than gasoline and is domestic.

He proposed that the private sector finance the investment, which would result in a one-third reduction, equal to $230 billion, in the U.S.' yearly payments to foreign countries.
I'll tell you what. This high gas prices deal combined with the mortgage meltdown has all the ingredients for the social and economic disasters foretold by many a e-prophet.
We need to all jump on a domestic alternative fuel band wagons.

I would go further. We need a full blown economic revoltution;
Stop paying credit cards that have adjusted up to 30%.
Start doing as much business as possible by barter or for cash.
Disown Walmart and Home Depot; seek out the locally owned stores and by Chinese junk from them.
Use alternative identities to buy foreclosure houses, just like illegal aliens are doing.

We are going down. We are letting politicians get away with enslaving our childrens children with unpayable debt.
Iraq was a lie. We are being ass raped finacially and T Boone presents a non militant plan to go forward and help save our nation.

If oil companies are allowed to drill in Alaska and offshore they will, in fact sell the oil at current world market prices and that= no solution whatsoever anytime soon for any workaday Joe.

I encourage everyone to write and demand a solution NOW.

They ( meaning Obamas team ) are dreaming up all sorts of  massive public works projects.

Listen, I like McCains idea of offer a massive cash reward for a break through power supply for electric cars.

I say it needs to go farther;
We need to get the hell out of shit holes like the ME and instead use our military to defend proprietary industrial inventions like the break through battery McCain is yapping on.

Like we start enforcing international patent law instead of nation building and getting our best and brightest killed for oil and ' stable markets ' overseas. As in, pirate our revolutionary energy technology and we bomb your commie arses.

solve the problem now, and use our reserves to pay back the money we owe China and then make them our bitch, Saudi style.  We could make India our bitch too.

That is the dumbest idea to pay off a several trillion dollar debt I have read so far. Europe would suck us dry with their much stronger currency. We need to almost eliminate the dependence of having foreign countries (China mostly) making our stuff and the US buys the products from them. Fighting non profiting wars. Giving money to countries that will never pay back the loan. Make prison a place for people to actually hate. Ban credit cards.

I am with this guy. If people stopped spending money they really don't have, we'd be much better off.

And yes, the earlier you can make yourself independent from ME oil, the better for your economy in the future. Because we will run out of oil at some point, and the economy which is best prepared for that day, will be at the top of the food chain.

The problem is that the big oil companies would much rather continue to make money off the technology they created and have invested heavily in over the last couple of decades, than get started with proper alternative energy research. A bit short-sighted, but as long as our politicians keep bending over to corporate interests, there is not much we can do. Apart from electing other politicians, of course..

several trillion?  I'm not even talking about paying off national debt, I just don't like China holding US treasury securities.

Currency retraction is a bitch, but China owning $500 Billion of our debt is a bigger bitch.  And I agree, every dollar spent at walmart only makes china stronger and more capable of owning us.  China is the opposing super power, with their own interests, and expanding sphere of influence.  the only reason they're even nice to us is because our trade deficite is a joke.

Petrol stations will not suffer from a conversion from oil to electricity.

They make next to nothing on fuel as is - the biggest impact will be, what, a 10 cent increase on the price of a sandwich???

Sure they will.  What is it that draws people to the gas station?  Fuel.  Some will still show up, but many will not.

Why do people here think it's an "either-or" situation?

It's not like Pickens' plan will eliminate anyone's need for oil...it will just eliminate one of the largest sectors of demand in the US. If it frees up coal reserves from electrical plants, then more of the extracted coal would be available for fuel conversion. Hell, those wind and solar generators need oil to run effectively.

There's no reason that we can't run our power grid predominantly on wind/solar/geothermal power and still tap our known oil reserves. There are a few impediments to drilling some of them, but eventually the pain of sending all of our money overseas to buy something that we have here will overcome the environmentalists' protests.

Sign on and support this Energy plan.  I know there are a lot of smart Americans in this forum and this is your chance to create change that is desperately needed.

Wind, Natural Gas, Biofuel..... we need to utilize everything.  Please take some time to read up on the plan and let me know what you think.

This guy has brains.

Natural gas is the way to go short term for alternative fuels - the others are crap, tbh. Ethanol takes masses of energy to make and hydrogen... well.

But as for the powergrid? Protip, move to somewhere with the feed-in tariff, get photovoltaics, pump into the grid. Makes you money. The grid itself runs off wind/gas. Easy.

(BTW: Can I still sign up even if I'm not American? Stuff it, I'll do it anyway)
