I found this interesting site and was surprised on how little in profits BFG, XFX, EVGA etc. are only making from each card with the price cuts to be able to compete with amd/ati.

Yep, it was totally different 2 gens ago. I posted something similar once. http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=104099
GFX manufacturers stopped making nvidia cards exclusively.

Looks to me the 260 and 280 could still drop considerably. Why are there even middle men(partners) with video cards? Why can't nvidia/ATi just sell us their shit directly? It would equate to lower prices for all, unless I'm missing something.

My opinion on that is they are just incapable of producing so many cards by them selves.

I don't see why they don't just increase their manufacturing capacity, but whatever.

Even Grand Canyon isn't big enough for that.

Nvidia doesn't even have manufacturing capacity. They are fabless.

Thats the price of the gpu by its self. They have to attach the gpu the company name board. So if its a small time company they will not make any profit on the gtx260 or just break even.

Because it's meant to be a free market.

The margins aren't that great, but scaled up they are still alright. Taking the BFG 9800GTX as an example - you can see that it is selling retail for $355 and they are buying it for $155. Let's assume they sale 10 a day for 365 days. That's 3650 cards sold at an extra $200 (in other words ... $730000)

Of course, that's turnover not net profit ... that number would go down quite a bit. Regardless, with the different types of cards they are selling they should still be doing okay to keep on buying
