Whatever the case, attempting to pollute less in your lifestyle is a good thing, and using biofuels is a good thing if we do it correctly. The "starving the poor" argument is the truly BS one because it's nothing more than the market acting as it should. There will naturally be periods of inflation in key commodities as a result of diversifying fuel sources.
The fact that using more biofuels leads to rises in the cost of certain fuels is unfortunate, but also inevitable. We shouldn't limit our options for alternative fuel just because some poor people suffer. They will suffer one way or the other, so we might as well benefit from it. It may not be the most humane way of looking at it, but it is realistic.

I agree with Marine... holy shit did I just say that? Although I think Gore's documentary was seriously biased towards fear more than information it is understandable, but I didn't need to hear his "woe is me" during the elections crap. Truth is, years of spewing shit in the air has to have an effect... I don't think it is as extensive as Gore claims. My fiance is from the Philippines and her family is directly affected by the prices for corn, rice, and grain. They can only afford about a third of the rice they used to get. Lucky if they can get two meals a day now. People are being attacked and sometimes killed for the food. And we sit here in the west scarfin' down our Big Macs and Whoppers like it's no big deal. I admit I am apathetic when it comes to Africa... not that I don't care, I just can't see how to solve it and seeing government after government throw money at it hasn't worked either. But in S.E. Asia the solution is simple... make rice cheap again.
Bio-fuels are not the answer. Leave the food... for eating! Hydrogen is the only viable long term fuel... I mean geez, the entire universe is made from Hydrogen so it isn't like it will run out. We just need to devote the time and money needed to make the switch... but big oil doesn't want that anyway... least not without their total control of it.

My point.. Africa has never had the money to buy. An increase cost in the US grain market makes little difference to people who are already starving and not receiving food or money.
