I would never suggest that we aren't getting screwed..lol. Did you forget about the airline bailout? They took the money and we still had layoffs in the thousands. Every time the government messes with the economy they screw it up. If we let the free market work we'd be much better off. The soaring cost of fuel has more to do with the fed destroying the dollar than anything else.ATG wrote:
Hey, if they had the balls to say " we are going to fuck you Iraq; occupy your country, take your oil and administrate your camel jockey asses " it would be one thing.Kmarion wrote:
The point was to illustrate that the results of action is not necessarily indicative of the reasons for action. You missed that.apollo_fi wrote:
You're still treating the Iraq attack as an act of god, something inevitable. Could you explain why? You seem to look at the war as the cause and Halliburton's profits as the effect.
Halliburton etc knew they'd get the contracts. Halliburton etc. had the means to influence national policy. I find it hard to imagine they abstained from wielding their influence.
The war was about getting Bush re-elected. Iraq made an easy target to show a position of strong national defense. Americans wanted that after the attacks. The war was not nearly as unpopular in 2003. This was reflective in the congressional votes for the invasion (apparently the majority of congress was taking money from Halliburton ) I suppose it was Halliburton convincing Saddam to ignore years of UN resolutions also.
Think bigger.
But no. They stood there are claimed the Iraqis would pay for their own liberation.
" Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice.............................ya ain't gonna get fooled again. "
I know when I'm being screwed, and Iraq is one of those times.
The bailout of the mortgage lenders is one of those times.
Hey Low, come on back. Get a job in the real world, save that idealistic bullshit for your children when you tell them how public service makes a great future.
I mean, that's what you are doing in Iraq, right?
A public service.
Now que the Star Spangled Banner.
