Bernie Mac recently opened for an Obama fundraiser and made some off-color jokes.

http://omg.yahoo.com/news/bernie-mac-ma … t/10715?nc

As could be expected, some of the crowd was angered by the following joke:

"My little nephew came to me and he said, 'Uncle, what's the difference between a hypothetical question and a realistic question?'" Mac said. "I said, I don't know, but I said, 'Go upstairs and ask your mother if she'd make love to the mailman for $50,000.'"

Obama took the stage later and tried to smooth things over, which was the politically smart thing to do.  However, I definitely am starting to get sick of this political correctness that so much of our society demands now.  People cry racism and sexism all the time, and god forbid you say something "unpatriotic."

I guess my question for this thread is: Why can't people grow a thicker skin about these sort of things?  Mac in the above example didn't seem to be really taking aim at any particular group with his joke, so why make a big deal out of it?  Is it really too much to ask people to have a sense of humor about things?

not an appropriate joke for a nation wide electoral campaign.  especially when the losing side of the campaign is made up of a lot of feminists.

Good point, but those feminists really need to shut the fuck up...  lol   If they think they're oppressed, they can move to Saudi Arabia and see how they like it there.

I'd rather be embarrassed by a comedian than my own record on fiscal intervention when it comes to banks during a time when some are failing.

TV One is only going to show Obama coverage, and not mccain.  Which seems to be just fine.  Now, if TBS would only show the white candidate, then all hell would break loose.

Exactly. Had he made this not on the Obama campaign trail, it would have been well recepted and people would have laughed (hell, I did, it was still a funny joke). However, it WAS on the Obama campaign trail. Therefore = bad.

*shrugs*  I don't lose my sense of humor when politics are involved.  In fact, I generally find politics to be more amusing than the world outside of them.  It seems so silly for people to get offended by a comedian.

It's the general public that's the problem. Bunch of uptight wankers.

If I was there, I wouldn't have minded. But the general public does.

So true...  it's hard not to be a misanthrope when dealing with the general public.

I think the campaigners are more worried about offending people than people actually being offended.  American Federal Politics is soundbytes and percentages.

I commented;

From a honky;

It smacks of not only racism not to cover the RNC it smacks also of an apparent self loathing which I find troubling.

I find it odd that black Americans do not celebrate Clarence Thomas or Condi Rice.
Do the achievements they have made become meaningless if you are ideologically opposed to them politically?

African Americans have been given full equality, and one will soon occupy the White House. I wonder if there would have been this kind of excitement, were he a republican. I doubt it.

And I think that reflects poorly on the Black Community.

As far as the joke goes, it was a sex joke in a political speech. Not professional, and not smart.

On a more casual scale though, yes, people need to relax.

Very simple answer, because we grow more socialist everyday as the PUSSIFICATION of America continues, ram-rodded by those who can not stand the thought that achievers SHOULD have more than non-achievers because THAT just isn't fair and some one might get their feelings hurt.

Politics can get to be ridiculous, and you can hardly blame politicians for trying to please everyone these days (though I'd still rather see ones that stand by their convictions).

I don't see what the big deal was. It was a good joke, but since the Hillary campaign went under, I suppose mega-feminists flocked to his side.

Obama would've gotten my raised eyebrow and possibly my vote if he would've told the crowd to 'toughen up.'

What kind of limp-wristed response is that?
