I was just there today, and it's worse than a farm.
We are supposed to be getting a supercenter soon, oh joy.

No. The cost of living in CT, NJ, Boston, and NYC is quite high. Higher than Nevada which only had a handfull of stores. And I don't think Sam Walton had a problem paying his employees at all. He was the first company in retail to incorporate profit sharing bonuses to ALL of his employees, from the carriage guys to the executives. You would be surprised actually, I might be taking a job with the evil empire because of how much they pay. My buddy is 29 and made $200,000 last year as a store manager. Assistant managers make $50,000 - $60,000 a year as well. Most business people have read books on Mr. Walton, the man really is a business genius whether you like his stores or not.CTD-CaptainBuck wrote:

At least you don't have an old black lady telling you semi-politely not to ask her for help again when she shows you the game section.HurricaИe wrote:
Wal-Mart sucks. I remember one time I went there and asked where they had the Mac games, and the person there took me to the PC games. I told them about the issue and they said "No, these games work on both."
Fucking epic fail.

The best was when the guy was successful in keeping Wal-Mart out of town. Keeping Wal-Mart out did nothing to stop the local small business from going under . Wal-mart makes an easy target to excuse away failure.

It's labor though isn't it? What's the alternative in some of these third world countries.. child prostitution? .. starving? Like the man said, they take these jobs because they want them. It's also rather ignorant to compare what we deem to be decent wages to what under developed countries do. The average American spends more on their home theater than what most Chinese make in a year.Blehm98 wrote:
the only downside of walmart is chinese slave labor...
i do feel bad about that, but...
it's china's fault, but...
it will happen regardless of what we do, and walmart doesn't do much to hurt the domestic economy

Every industrialized country has gone through it's own economic development period. There is an obvious shift in wealth going on in the world. Let's not cry to much for the Chinese. srsly
No argument there. I think the average Chinese person makes the equivalent of 6k a year (adjusted for PPP). I tend to think Sub-saharan africa is much worse .Blehm98 wrote:

it's too bad there isn't something better, but china is prolly about as bad as most of africa for the common person, and...
as shone in the video, working in a sweat shop would be quite preferable to subsistence agriculture wasting your life surviving and nothing more
