A ‘vulnerable’ man cut off his own head with a chainsaw after being ordered to move out of his home to make way for developers, police believe.

David Phyall’s severed head was found beside the power tool inside his housing association flat shortly after receiving his eviction notice.

Detectives were today investigating the possibility that the 58-year-old killed himself rather than leave his home of eight years.

I guess the bad news just made him lose his head! The very gruesomeness of this makes my head spin in all honesty.

How the hell can you cut your own head with a chainsaw...i mean witout using some sort of mechanism to make it continue the cutting once you severed the spine and cant move or your already dead half way...

put chainsaw above neck
let gravity take care of the remaining inches after losing consciousness.

he might not necessarily have cut his head off so much as done enough damage to be entirely lethal

it would take a bit of pressure to cut through the spine, but if you cut through the rest of the neck you're dead in 10 seconds anyway

yeah but you're unconscious the moment you sever the carotid artery, and 10 seconds later you've last 3/4 the blood in your body

chainsaws have safeties that shut them off if you're not gripping them right?

no, it takes at least five seconds. death follows at around 12 seconds.

that's actually a fair possibility, given the proximity of the wind pipe to the blood vessels in the neck

depending on damage to the body
