Ive just started to take my driving lessons, ive done 1 - 1 hour lesson so far, and well anyways ive got a few questions.

When i go to junction or to turn, after i slow down using the brake, do i then put my foot full down on the clutch and then slowly on the accelerator and slowly let go of the clutch?

Its the same with stopping, when i apply the brakes to slow down, do i put my foot full down on the clutch before stopping?

Stupid questions but i want to get it right

Thanks for any info in advance

Yes and I'm not just saying that because I don't know how to drive yet

I don't know how to drive a stick shift. I just come up to an intersection and apply the brake.

I think this guy outlines it in one of his videos. They're worth watching...very useful if your starting on a standard.

To your first question... to turn a corner brake, clutch in, second gear then bring your foot slowly up on the clutch to pull you round the corner

Second question.. wait until engone revs are approx 1000, then put your clutch down.

Good luck with the driving man, got my test booked for the 19th Aug

Yes, when stopping the car at a junction or at anytime, you must push your foot down on the clutch, after applying the brakes, to prevent the car from stalling.

When starting again, slowly release the clutch and slowly add some pressure on the accelerator.

if the junction has a "stop" sign then you must apply your handbreak then when the road is clear, clutch--->first-----> ease foot off clutch till you feel the engine bite, then handbreak off apply accelerator----foot off clutch.   Don't ride the clutch take your foot off it if you're not using it! very important.

Having just recently passed my driving test they do ask you to apply the handbreak at a stop junction, utterly pointless but it shows the examiner you've noticed it's a stop junction and not just a normal junction.

For the first question, after breaking you don't need the clutch until ~1000 revs or the engine tells you (you'll know because the car will sound and pull different - that's your indicator to put your clutch down or you'll stall). If you don't approach ~1000 revs you do not need the clutch to make that turn or junction. Just remember that if you've slowed down too much you'll need to change gear BEFORE hitting the accelerator again (your gear doesn't matter at all until you hit the accelerator, don't ask me why I don't know how cars work that's just how it works).
A helpful table for speeds and gears is generally;

0-5mph -   1st gear
5-20mph - 2nd gear
20-30mph - 3rd gear
30-40mph - 4th gear
40+mph - 5th gear

Although for purposes of your test, 1st gear is only for pulling away, never try and drive in first gear. After gear changing, keep your foot on the clutch and bring it slowly up whilst pushing your accelerator slowly down with the other foot, like a scissor motion. Don't bring the clutch up too fast or you'll stall.

When stopping, it's the same principle. Just apply the brake until you reach ~1000 revs or your engine tells you, then hit the clutch all the way in. You'll lose braking power of the engine when you apply clutch so brake harder to compensate.

From my experiences:

When i go to junction or to turn, after i slow down using the brake, do i then put my foot full down on the clutch and then slowly on the accelerator and slowly let go of the clutch?

When coming to a turn, what I basically do is:

1. Start braking (obviously)
2. Press in the clutch all the way and shift to 2nd gear (or 3rd depending on your speed), leaving the clutch in the entire time
3. Make the turn in 2nd gear with the clutch still in
4. Halfway through the turn, release the clutch and gas it

Its the same with stopping, when i apply the brakes to slow down, do i put my foot full down on the clutch before stopping?

Take the car out of gear when coming to a full stop and then apply brakes. (Coast to your stop). Then, just throw it into 1st gear when you're going to take off again.

Also, a great way of taking off in first is outlined below (best to practice in a parking lot):

At a stop, put the clutch in all the way and shift to 1st gear. Slowly, and I mean slowly, start pulling off the clutch, but do not accelerate. At a certain point, depending on the vehicle, the car will start to creep forward. Hold your foot in that position and you should be able to move about going 1-2 mph. It is at that point where you can start accelerating. Push in the accelerator the same amount you give off of the clutch. It should provide you with a flawless start.

All I've driven is manuels until recently (8 years), so I know my shit.

For the second question you put down your clutch just before you get to about 1k revs otherwise you will stall out.

Not quite sure what you meant by the first question. What I think you were asking was: Slowdown to whatever speed is suitable eg 20 change gear to correct gear for that speed, in my cars case thats 2nd, apply enough acceleration to stay at constant speed around corner.

Its weird, maybe because I have had a drink, maybe because I been driving for so long but I'm having to think really hard about the answer.  I'm also grateful for the help given above.

I'm being taught to use the handbrake everytime you stop e.g roundabouts, junctions if not clear, traffic lights etc. etc.
