Take the car out of gear when coming to a full stop and then apply brakes. (Coast to your stop). Then, just throw it into 1st gear when you're going to take off again.
Whatever you do, do not do this ELITE-UK.
Coasting will fail your test in the UK. Although I wouldn't worry too much about all the small details, your instructor will tell you all eventually.
Why would you fail for doing something like that?
Putting the car into neutral to come to a stop is a smart thing to do for a "newbie" manual transmission driver.
Another thing you could do is just start slowing down, clutch in, put the car in 1st, and hold the clutch until you come to a stop.
As for turning, you pretty much always put the car in 2nd gear for a turn then just release the clutch when you are done.
The more you drive the more you will get used to the feel of the clutch and you will get better at it.
