Yeah, I saw that earlier. First time since '75 in the US? Fuck yeah.
I got my Tivo set
I love Steven Colbert. Has anyone seen the episode where he owned Eleanor Holmes Norton? Probably the funniest interview ever.

First television appearance in 30 years playing live.
The guys normally don't do that because there is no need to promote one of the biggest bands on the planet. They've considered it demeaning to whore them selves out.
They like comedy. So Colbert gets the mega honor.
btw, Rush gets their star on the Hollywood walk of fame next year.
Guess who will be at the ceremony.
Rush rules.

Rush 1974
Rush 2008
You absolutely will not find a bigger Rush fan than me (I'm actually wearing my 2112 shirt right now while listening to La Villa Strangiato), but why would they play Tom Sawyer? They have so many better songs. In fact, I would consider Tom Sawyer to actually be a bad song, and I don't consider many Rush songs to be bad. They should play any one of the following: The Trees, Limelight, Anthem, Fly By Night. The true classics.

Its probably their best known song tbh.

Could be that I hate Geddy's singing, but just love the damn band so much, that an instrumental would be my favorite.
How could you hate his singing!?! He has got an amazing voice, but to each his own. As far as instrumentals, La Villa Strangiato easily holds the cake there. Actually, I can't really think of many instrumental songs of theirs other than YYZ and the ones from Snakes and Arrows. But this could be due to the fact that I stopped listening to Rush albums after Moving Pictures. I didn't like Signals at all, and I disagree with the direction the band went. But to this day I consider Hemispheres to be the greatest album of all time.oChaos.Haze wrote:

Dunno, I just have never liked when guys sound like females when they sing. Why not just let a woman sing, so Geddy can get back down to playing bass and keys at the same time? I think you are confusing the words amazing and unique. His singing is definitely their weakest link, IMHO.
I am not a Rush fanboy. I don't think Neal Peart is god. I just think they are flat out greater than the sum of their parts. I would go as far as to call them one of the best trios ever. Especially live.

I played a racing game on N64 I think called rush
Rush is a Canadian band. No wonder they own so much.
Rush are good and they always had brilliant album covers. Geddy lee is a bit overrated as a bass player though imo. I've never seen him do anything that I couldn't do myself.
Perhaps you can prove me wrong though ATG...any awesome clips of him playing out there on the interwebz? I know Claypool rated him highly and Claypool is right up there in my book.

You're not supposed to fucking watch shows like Colbert for the fucking live music

I agree, whenever he has a musicz guest on I TiVo-skip through the musicz part.Mek-Stizzle wrote:

John Legend
Well he plays a Fender Jazz bass that's modded to his likings. His fretwork and technique are flawless. I've never really looked at Rush by looking at one person, as they are one of those bands, where it's what everyone is doing that makes it magical. Geddy is really fast though, he and Alex Lifeson go note for note on some fast ass runs.Braddock wrote:

Here's where I think Geddy is set apart. Many times, he will play his bass on a single string, whilst he also plays the keyboards. Plus, every member of Rush has what I believe to be midi organ pedals, that can play bass notes and keyboard notes. I was reading an interview with Alex Lifeson where he talked about this. So there's 3 guys doing the work of like 6, haha.
This is YYZ, listen to the runs that the bass matches the guitar. There's a really cool part where the drums and the bass take turns with little fills. Peart usually goes into a solo there, but on album, and sometimes live, they just play though it. Plus the intro is in 5/8, and matches the morse code for the letters YYZ. Which is used by the Canadian Airports for something, haha.

Somebody better put this on YouTube or something, I wish I had comedy central.
15 minutes!
I recently saw them on their tour. We were lucky that they stopped in Vancouver at all. It was only added to the tour later than most dates. Not the best concert I've ever seen (I preferred The Who and The Rolling Stones), but regardless, a tremendous show. "Limelight" would have to be my absolute favourite, which is what they opened with.
Lel, rush is taking the whole questionnaire, which is supposed to be funny, seriously.
lewl fucking lewl colbert, ruinin my rush are ye?

That was a really good performance. <3 Rush.
I have to confess that I'm sort of a freak when it comes to Rush. I have been a devoted fan for almost 30 years. I had Permanent Waves on 8 track for Gods sake.Braddock wrote:

I know there are bass players out there with comparable chops, but I would say nobody comes close to being as good as he while singing.
In this video he is playing a fairly complicated part while singing, using pedals with his feet and triggering overdubs. Oh yeah, keyboards too.
The bottom line is that when you are dealing with elite musicians it comes down to what you like better, as no bass player will ever mean as much to me personally as Geddy Lee.
Turn The Page
And he always so helpful.
Kind of reminds me of Ryan.
And for those who persist in saying the man can't sing, please take a minute and watch this.
Gives me chills every time.
