So basically, this shows that the LS3, comes in about Spoiler (highlight to read):
1.5 seconds behind the R8.

But lets make the comparison. I just saw a R8 at my local Audi Dealer marked up at 170,000 before options and taxes. And how much does a LS3 cost? 47k?? Just imagine if they compared it to a Z06! It would have smoked the R8.

So there is my point, Audi sucks. The worst of German cars.

The R8 is a sexy machine. I saw one driving around my hood. I was with my friend in his car and as soon as he saw it he followed it for like 5 blocks until it sped off in a glorious engine hum.

It looks like its missing a piece. I mean, I hate Italian cars, but id rather have a nice dark gray F430 hardtop. For the price its stupid, I mean for the sticker of 110k its fine, but 170? That's worth a fast car.

My personal choice would be a SL63 and use the extra 40k to do some major tuning (: but thats just me

Yea you should have mentioned dealer mark up because the R8 is 109k without options.

Its not like rich people cant afford the extra 60 grand, it just pisses them off so much they head elsewear.

I ask the guy at the dealer why its marked so high, and he tells me that it is because it is a limited edition car with only 200 some in the US. But then i asked, "well a CLK Black Series is just as limited and is not marked up a penny, why is there a difference when they have the same production count?"

No answer, uhm well uhhh i dont really know.

I'd rather have an R8 than a Corvette tbh.

Unless it was like a '67 Stingray, then I'd get the Corvette.

Well obviously, but are you willing to pay 130k+ extra for something based on looks?

If i had 170k I would take a LS3 and take it to Lingenfelter. And still have enough money to buy a lamborghini.... Just kidding

Audi sucks,

because of that un useful peace of conclusion...

if you would have the money, like the looks.. etc...

would you (A: if you liked the LS3 care about 1,5 seconds)

B, even care about Corvette if you just don't like 'em,

honestly all these comparisons/lap times/cost... whatever.........

I find that car crap, you this one and James Cockheaven finds that one crap.... and to buy a car only on track times is total bullshit either way.

for you an R8 is expensive, for someone else it isn't and then if he can buy one car and he likes the R8 and dislikes the corvette which one will he choose.... (dun dun dun).

but whatever CAR BATTLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The point is though, the R8 is a much nicer machine, it looks better, it drives better, and quite plainly is better.

Does it look nice?Yes.

Does it attract women?Yes.

My current buisiness venture, involves buying and selling R8's and putting them out at insanely inflated prices, and guess what.  I cant get my hands on new stock quickly enough.  As far as I am concerned, the R8 is a gift from the father!  (btw its legit, there non US cars, converted to north america use and sold on).

dude what?

go buy a salvaged miata, drop a LS7 in it, throw on race suspension and beat them both for less then 10 grand... but its gonna rattle, wont clear a speed bump, and will generally suck to ride in.

The point is these car are not priced based off a lap time. Look at the quality of materials, the comfort, the prestige, the car as a piece of art, the comfort and ride quality...

You can have a stupid fast last time for relatively cheap, you can have a soft comfy car for relatively cheap...

But to build a car that compromises nothing and offers style, comfort, speed....
The Vette and the 911 were tested against each other... The vette won but the testers said the Porsche was more enjoyable to drive, and felt more precise...

The point is you can build a car to just do one thing with relative ease... but to ignore all compromises and build a car that does everything takes a lot of engineering.... and that means money.

Thank jesus someone else on this fourm has a level head. Seriously, it makes me laugh reading all of Seals' ramblings on Mercs and how nothing compares to his CLK Black Edition. Well, i suppose everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but cmon now, at least try to hear other sides of the arguement once in a while.

Wrong, I also appreciate Corvettes.

The point is, its not very fun paying 170k for a car that a 50k car can keep up to. If youre going to spend the money, buy something fast, such as a ferrari even. If you want to compare the R8 to another similar price range car. I'm pretty sure that lands at the bottom of the 200k list.

You forget with the audi your paying for build quality, interior quality and a much nicer ride. Vette's are basically just a powerful engine n not much else.

Now see i would take and buy the Z06 model C6, for im gunna make a rough guess of like 70k tops. Then take the extra 100k and get the fastest grade lingenfelter supercharge kit put on it. And with such a budget i could upgrade pretty much anything. Turn it into an ungodly beast.

my grandpa actually has a lingenfelter/LMS 700hp TT. (C5)
rapes, it does, young padawon.

gas milage rapes us though.

Just take a standard C5/C6 like he did and upgrade it, you end up tearing the whole thing up anyways. Because youre going to end up replacing the wheels, putting brembo breaks in it and tearing apart the engine anyways. And once you do that its basically a C5/C6. Then you end up tearing out the Z06 seats and everything.

The corvettes I think are actually pretty nice, I mean they have a HUD and the Z06 has some pretty cool (one)piece? seats that are pretty comfy and cool to be in. The only thing that sucks is the dash is typical chevy/gm dash that is pretty plasticy.

lol, the 89 nissan 240sx had hud.... Does that mean its nice? like you said cheap plastic dash, tacky interior, did you see the top gear when the C6 was released and Jermy was pushing on the rear of the car and you could actually see the plastic of the car flex?

If you like the vette more fine... I would way rather have the vette too... but a 170k car is made for much more then just lap times. A one piece race seat is all well and good... but you can get a carbon Kevlar race seat for less then a couple grand.... But to make a plush seat with supple genuine leather that feel like a lazy boy but hold you like a race seat is a whole different story. Look at the cars themselves... I think vettes are sexy, but again the vette is a fairly straight forward  basic design that looks like one guy spent an afternoon updating the C5... The R8 looks like a super car. The vette is just about having a pretty sexy kick ass sports car... the R8 is about a whole lot more.

I think it looks pretty cool to, but also as Clarkson said, it appears as though its missing something. I think near the price and speed, a Aston Martin is a much more beautiful car.
