Was reading another post there and remembered what i was talking to my friend the other day about.

was thinking that it would come in handy to be able to talk to not only you squad mates and commander, but people within a say 5 meter diameter from where you are standing.

This would then come in handy when you get into a vehicle with team mates who are not in your squad, but you can still talk to them. It would also come in handy when you are walking about and spot a claymore, then you can just say where it is and all your team mates around you will hear you.

many a time have i been sitting in the gunner seat of a Vodnic, shooting down enemy soldiers while the rest of the team take a flag, then someone gets into the driver seat and drives off. now if i could ask him not to drive off, then that would also be good i think.

Of course this could have a downside because you might end up hearing too many idiots shouting abuse all the time, but from my experience in squads, i never really encounter idiots.

that would be sweet, but don't count on it.

It would come in handy...Battlefield Modern Combat for PS2 and XBox has that and it seems like it's get it's advantages...maybe assign a button for proximity talking in addition to the other communication options...

Imagine the lag and the major noise when you've got one CP left and there are 30 people all within 5 meters of you.... I think my mic would break

This is a very good point. Although the idea is a good one and has benefits, I think the reason VOIP is limited to a 6 man squad is to reduce spam. Anyone remember CS? Yeah...i know you do.

I've got to say that I've had the same conversation with my brother.  Except we thought it would be great to have a PA system on the Blackhawk and shout taunts at the players below...maybe even blare some music.

Yeah i was thinking that it would be good to have it assigned to another button, that way you could still talk within your squad and not clog the airwaves.

but again, there probably would be a hell of a lot of lag on some peoples systems because of the amount of sound if everyone was at the one base. This could easily be solved though if there was an option to switch off the proximity VOIP in the sound settings. this way people with better computers can still use it, but others can just stick to squad VOIP.

this suggestion as well as similar ones are on the discussions table for  'feature requests' in our testing forums.

many a time i have run into a claymore or seen a grenade tossed and would have liked to been able to warn those around me, but all i can do is start running and hope i dont get killed.  also, when using a vehicle as a mounted-gun platform i have been driven off with.  that's annoying, to say the least.

i used to play halo 2 a lot, and proximity talk was incredible.  from coordinating attacks to taunting the enemies.  yeah, i agree it would probably clog the lines and lag a bit, but it would have greater positives than negatives.

What I think could come in very handy a lot of times is a third VoIP channel for communications among Squad Leaders only. So we would have one channel for Squad Leader to Squad Members, another for Squad Leader to Commander, and immagine a third one for SL to SL: Travelling and Formation would be easier to coordinate between Squads and the Teamwork would be significantly improved. A lot of possibilities.
