I was just updating my iPod and playing a few songs on iTunes on my laptop while I wait for my iPod to charge and hardly any of the songs I've purchased from the iTunes store will play! One or two (actually 2 out of 48) of them do but if I try and play most them it skips directly to the next song without playing a note, and if the next song is also an iTunes purchased song it will skip again until it finds one that works.

What the hell is that all about? Anyone else have a similar problem?

I knew there was a good reason I buy most of my music off of cheap Russian sites.

EDIT: The tracks still play on the iPod just not on the laptop.

If you're going to get it illegally why buy it illegally?

The Russian sites are legal, i sleep well at night knowing the musicians I like get their cut of the 15cent per track that I pay!

Correction: The Russian sites are legal in Russia.

have you moved the songs around on your harddrive? Delted them? Have you actually downloaded them?

Sounds like iTunes can't find them (ie - location has changed), so it skips to the next song.

No, that's the strange thing. I've downloaded them and have been playing them no problem for months now but all of a sudden today they don't work. Haven't moved any of the files either, everything is still in the original iTunes music parent folder.

It's weird because I've just re-synched my iPod and they play no problem on it so the problem doesn't cross over onto the iPod.

The music industry is a rip off.

File sharing is illegal and cuts out the artists completely.

Cheap Russian sites = reasonable compromise between music fan and greedy music industry.

try dragging the songs from your iTunes music folder into iTunes...

Tried that but it's not working, it still skips onto the next playable song.

It's strange because i can play the original mp3 file in the finder, it just refuses to play ball if I open it in iTunes.
