The other benefit non heath would be the the amount of tax revenue the tobacco industry provides.
not really
nicotine will buzz you, but that isn't really a benefit
and all other effects, like calming you down, generally require addiction, and most of the time addiction simply aggravates stress

QFT. Nicotine is actually a stimulant. It only calms down people who already smoke and need to feed their addiction.Blehm98 wrote:

About a day before it finally caught up with him he was coughing up blood and grape size pieces of lung.
RIP Kurt.
It does have health benefits. Smokers buy anti-smoking aids or go to the doctor when their smoking-related illnesses get too bad. That means $$$ for the doctor and the researchers etc. And that $$$ means they can afford health care.
was gonna post something very like this, QFTMek-Stizzle wrote:
For me, I'm not properly addicted. Infact last time I smoked was now a week ago, but:
- It can calm down the nerves
- It can give you a little bit of an extra buzz when coupled with drinking alot
- It gives you something to do if you're a person that can't sit still for long and just chill (me), and coupled with it calming you down. It works well. This new law that makes you go outside to smoke actually works out quite well for people like me
- It works well socially, hard to explain, but it does for me
Those aren't really health benefits, more like just benefits
Even if smoking did have some health benefits, the negative effects would outweigh the positive tenfold.
I wouldn't want to have lung cancer and emphysema just to get some minor positive health effects.

Sorry about the necro posting but I heard one a day is good for digestion.
Even if it does, why smoke when you can just take fiber? 100% easier to do...wah1188 wrote:

I assume it's good for digestion in a different way than fiber is. Anyway I doubt many people could smoke just one a day for digestion. People know the facts about smoking it's their choice.
Nicotine is an antidepressant, which is why lots of depressed people smoke. And, as mentioned above, smokers almost never get ulcerative colitis, and sometimes get it when they stop.
Although nicotine is addictive, it is not particularly harmful. It's the smoke in cigarettes that makes nasty things grow in your lungs.
