Now if the co-operated with the officers, everything would have been fine...I would have thought that 15 year old girl would be more than happy to bend over and pick it up...

How are they armed with lethal equipment, but not firearms? Grenades?

Good luck to them though. They are obviously doing a great job.

On a side not: I personally believe these figures can also be attributed to the ban on samurai sword sales without a special license.
Don't let the right-wing Americans hear you saying that, their solution was for everyone to get a samurai sword so as there would be a 'level playing field'.

It's funny how the same people don't agree with Iran making the nuclear playing field level.

PS: I think knife related homicide has been going steadily up actually, I may be wrong though...I've been watching a lot of Sky News lately.
In theory yes. But that same theory works much better for guns.

If you could walk down to the pawn shop and buy a gun, and carry it on you throughout your travels. You would have a way to protect yourself when that criminal (who has a gun no matter what the law is, mind you!) tries to mug you at gunpoint.

Also, dont you think a criminal would be more likely to mug someone if they knew said person had inattiquite protection?

No, knife crimes in the UK ARE increasing since the gun ban.  I wasn't just guessing.
GOOGLE IT YOURSELF.

This highly suggests evolution in crime tactics (even though it's actually reverting to an older tactic), resourcefulness, and an utter failure in reducing crime from banning guns in the UK.  UK = fail.

And yeah!!  GO get 'em Brownie!  Show those perps what knifing looks like (since they apparently don't look at their victims after knifing them)!  That'll stop them from stabbing people...  derrrrrr..  BROWN = fail.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said his government will tackle knife crime by targeting ``problem families'' with disruptive children after a spate of fatal stabbings in the U.K.

More than 110,000 families whose children carry and use knives will receive ``parenting supervision,'' and the worst cases will be evicted from social housing unless their children's behavior improves, Brown told reporters in London.

``What I want to see is anybody who is using a knife goes to prison,'' Brown said during his monthly press conference today. ``Anybody who is carrying a knife is subject to either prison or a strong community payback that forces them to give service to the community.''
Knife crime is not rising (at least there is no evidence to suggest that it is). There have been a few high profile incidents of knife crime which have led to a distorted public perception which is not matched by any statistics. Find me stats, actual stats, that show knife crime is rising - you won't be able to, because they don't exist.

You are more than twice as likely to be a victim of knife crime in the US and more than fifty times as likely to be a victim of gun crime. This suggests to me that gun control probably works very well here.

Not true.  If guns are illegal, then there are fewer guns around, meaning they're rarer, meaning they attract higher values, meaning they're less likely to be used by people who assault random members of the public.  If your logic were true then there ought be just as many robberies at gun point in Australia or Britain as there are in the US.  There aren't.  Many theives here (even those attacking shops rather than people) will use bats or knives.

A) The chances of being mugged a gunpoint, when guns are illegal, is virtually non-existent. I live in quite a rough area of London, probably the national centre for gun crime, yet I've never even seen a handgun or heard of anyone being mugged with one (and I know a LOT of people who move in quite dodgy circles). Guns are very, very rarely used for anything other than gang crime. On the rare occasions a normal member of the public gets shot, it is because they've been caught in the crossfire when gang members were trying to shoot each other.

B) Don't you think criminals would be far more likely to mug someone if they (the mugger) were armed with guns?

C) Trying to use a gun to defend yourself against someone who has the initiative and is already pointing their gun at you is an extremely foolish thing to do.
